Hello NapaBavarian, I have a 05 CRD Sports since Feb 2005. I have family through out the entire continuous states, from Maryland through Washington State and I visit some of them almost every summer. I keep my Jeep serviced regularly and it is almost ready to go in long trips at any time. In 2015 we, my wife of 45 years and I, made a coast to coast round trip, from MD to Delaware, up to Maine, Atlantic coast, across Canada, north of the great lakes, to Washington and Oregon, Pacific coast,, back through Colorado and New Mexico, about 8,100 miles in 27 days. My only issues, one boosted CVJ boot, in Colorado, and noisy bearing from the Dif pinion, but the little Jeep brought me back home to do the repairs. I do off road excursions occasionally, as the opportunity presents, Silverton to Ouray in Colorado, and in one trip around SW Colorado, Mesa Verde, the transfer case appears to be stuck in 4w full time, The dealer in Cortes found that was the switch and not the gears. My Jeep is basically stock, the only modifications, air lockers front and rear, rock sliders, custom made by my son in law in Charlotte, full underbelly protection, and provent with direct drain back to the crank case. Now I have 191,000 + miles and looking to a trip to Florida in July and another to Colorado in August. I get any thing from 22-24 MPG fully loaded pulling a 2,500 lb. trailer trough the Appalachians, to 28-30 mpg lightly loaded flat area north of Michigan State. I have been lucky that my other mishaps, serpentine belt, water pump, brakes, etc..., have been in town, and my repair shop have been accessible. Good luck in your trip, Sergio
