Now that the new kj is home, mod one is the spare tire cover. While this might sound minor, this modification signaled the downfall for my last kj! At the time, jeep had a smiley face with whiskers. The wife (and to a lesser extent the kids) quickly grew tired of the smiley face. Suggestions for jeep tire covers? I am also considering the plastic molded one. Any have one of those? Any suggestions for online retailers? Thanks!

My suggestion is to not use a tire cover at all. The libbys look better with the rim exposed. What rims do you have on yours?

get something custom. I got mine from apache tire covers, an eBay store, it's high quality sewn vinyl, and they come in all sizes.

Yea.....air it out - especially if you got good tires ( not the crappy badyears like mine ). Just put one of those wheel locks on it.

I've got no spare tire cover on mine. I think they look 10x better without it.

Take it off...not only will it look better (IMO), it will also not let the water and road grim just sit in there and eat the wheels' finish off and rot the rubber.

Mine is nekkid. No reason to hide abeautiful tire. I have 2 different locknuts on it (got a set for my tires that came with 5 amd the previous owner already had one on it). I also used a Masterlock cable lock through the spoke and the tire mount just to make sure. 19.95 at Lowes for an adjustable master cablelock.

Got the molded plastic one. Everytime I take it off, there's more crap under it. But I paid for it and darnit, I'm gonna use it! (At least till I get some better lookin tires!) Oh, And look into the locking nuts they sell on the internet for security of the wheel to gate mounting assy if u live in a high theft area. Evidently the entire mount can be easily unbolted from the gate and there goes ure wheel. Worth it for about $6.

this never took off.....
we can bring it back but I doubt it will be cost effective - unless you want to pay around $100 for a tire cover.

KJ-BOL - just a good idea that never caught on huh? I remember seeing that thread...

My vote goes with the uncovered tire as well...
I am running coverless with my stock tires currently and will continue once I get the 245/70/16 's ...

KJ's look good with a naked wheel on the back. Leave the tire covers to the soccer moms

Didn't that thread estimate $50 for a tire cover? I guess that was assuming 24 orders, which is a LOT.

If you can make them more simple and sewn vinyl, you can get them pretty cheap at a place like where I got mine (I think mine was $65 or so). I actually had originally planned to have "LOST" and my LOST number on the cover, but decided against it. Good thing, too, cuz my lost number changed when we went to the new system (I had too many digits). They do them by hand, so there's no setup fee like there would be for the other ones. You could probably still work out a group discount, though.

You are supposed to rotate those things anyway so the grim should never get a chance to build up

Just messin with ya Nate

I use the 4 tire rotation method...That way, I only have to buy 3 tires next time...

I have the Smiley face, American flagg bandana with whiskers that says, "Only In a Jeep". It's cute and my wife likes it. I keep it off most of the time though. I think my KJ looks 'tougher' showing my aluminum wheels.
