Well here is an update, got the new solenoid pack installed and used a lubelock gasket on the pan. Recommend the lubelock gasket, no rtv needed! The new solenoid pack worked perfectly temperature sending wise until it didn't. So it's not the solenoid pack. Really struggling with this issue. It must be something I did when I disconnected the wiring harness for the head repair. Funny thing is a battery disconnect seems to reset the prolblem until the "system" warms up. As always any suggestions welcome.
Here's an update for anyone reading my sad tale. Looks like the connector is bunk at the TCM, should have done the easy first, Occam's Razor. This picture
shows the bad thermistor terminal.
Does anyone know the style of this connector and what tool is required to remove the pins? I'm handy with molex connectors and have those tools just not familiar with this fancy automotive connector.
Thanks.
So here is the real damage that gave the faulty P0714 intermittant temp signal from the transmission.
Seems that jeep went cheap. The pin on the left is from a gasoline liberty 2002 connector, the one on the right came out of my connector. You can see the damage to the pin, seems that a loose fit caused excessive electrical corrosion and the pin is also of inferior quality, actuaries come to mind. You can find this connector on many jeep models, the donor connector cost me 10 bucks at a pick n pull.
These pins are different and I had to modify the connector housing a bit but the repair works. Would advise getting correct replacement pin for your rebuild.
Will advise if I still have issues but this should close this drama on the jeep, off to another.
