I wrapped a chain around the rear of the exhaust manifold on the passenger side right where the EGR crossover tube connects and around the EGR tube on the passenger side. Hooked this to the hoist hook in conjunction with a chain from the front lifting point.
Oly moly....... there has to be a better point of connection than that.
Where did the factory guys connect to?
At the 'factory'.. the engine and trans are assembled to the cradle, which has most of the front driveline and the major harnesses and plumbing are also attached, along with the rear trans cross member. Call it a pre assembled sub assembly. Then it's aligned to the body, and RAISED up into the vehicle. no scratched paint, dents, bloody hands.. Time wise, it's a no brainer. you can't be screwing around on the assembly line hooking up a myriad of connections. There just isn't enough time or room for everybody to do their job on a moving vehicle. But hooking up few main connectors and a few hose connections is a piece of cake.
I was considering doing this to mine for removal... but my lifting jig is pre occupied with another project. Without that lift, going out the top really the only way.
I know this is an old thread, I found it looking to see how other's have pulled their engine. Looks like a sling towards the rear is how I'll go this time.
