Fresh VW gate news.

The approved VW fix results in increased fuel consumption and corresponding carbon footprint, negligible NOx reduction.

For what it is or is not worth The Sun is a UK tabloid "newspaper" with at best an interesting history when it comes to factual reporting.

This. The Sun should not be taken as in any way a reputable or accurate source of news. Page 3 (Google it; NSFW) is about the only thing it does with any sort of trustworthiness.

Also, speaking as the owner of a Dieselgate Jetta that went under the knife for the fix... We've seen negligible differences in performance or economy since it was performed nearly six months ago. Perhaps the EU-approved modifications were different and had a greater impact, but in our usage on a US-model vehicle it's barely perceptible.

Hey now... Lets not all pick on The Sun too terribly. Page 3 is a fine institution, supported by only the UK's finest daily-delivered fishwrap.

It was also something of a given that anything that VW did would be picked apart by regulators and hungry shar...Lawyers. Announcing that the fixes reduce fuel economy plays into that narrative which could be a basis for further legal fees and long-running lawsuits, reality be dammed.

Ok I'll rephrase. The Sun is a shining (pun intended) example of quality UK journalism.
