Post subject: Picture Request - Front Mounted Winches
PostPosted: Wed Nov 09, 2005 8:57 am
I would really like to see this thread fill up with pictures of front mount winches that people already have on their KJ's. It would really help me and everyone else, either now or in the future, decide on an appropriate setup.

I have seen a few pictures using the search function, but to get a bunch compiled into one thread would be very nice... 8)

This set up is a Superwinch 9000 lb on a modified winch carrier. i just it down in size as small as possible and added handles on the inside. The rope and alum fairlead dropped right at 45-50 lbs off the front of the KJ. I have plugs in the front and back of the KJ so i can use it front or rear. Hope this helps. later...Clint

Draw-Tite front hitch, Warn XD9000i in Multi-Mount cradle:

If you are wanting to drive around with it mounted (on the trails I don't) I wouldn't get the roller fairlead (much bigger).

These hitch mounted winches can really mess with your entry angles. I still haven't seen a good mount for above the bumper.

Here's a shot of my setup in action, which I think is pretty slick. It's a Warn SDP6000 (4.8 HP), installed in a Class III receiver hitch, that I had fabbed into the grill, above the bumper. I also shortened the tongue on the winch, to keep it in tight. Of course like any multimount, I can use it in the back receiver (with a receiver extension), or take it off when I'm not wheeling.

KJ33, that is pretty slick. How about a write up of how you did it in the "Fabrication" section?

If you can, would you post a close up of the above bumper mounting setup you created. This is a really slick setup and gets the winch up and out of the way!

Finally got some more pix posted, of the winch receiver. It's just a 2" receiver tubing welded vertically behind the bumper and grill, and then another piece to make another hitch above the bumper. From a distance with the plugs in, you can hardly tell there's any mods.

i like what KJ33 has there
if i were to go multi mount that is about the only way i thik it could work with out having to keep the winch in the back and only putting it on when you need it
if you leave it in the standard front hich it kills your approach angle

I like the modded hitch receiver being higher up, makes me want to bolt and weld one right on top my steel bumper

Doesn't that put a lot of strain on the vertical bar? Also aren't you pulling the front end down instead of up?
