I bought the last one from Cascade Transmission parts when the pack went out. That was at 158k Miles. Currently at 210k Miles.

Now it's gone out, and I've ordered another one. It was about time for a Transmission service anyways, so 5 quarts of ATF4+ and a filter pack was ordered as well.

I'm downgrading the HD-2 to the standard Transgo shift kit for that valve block, hoping that possibly the HD-2 was partly responsible for the reduced solenoid pack life.

Wish me luck. Anyone else had issues like this?

why would you suspect the HD2?

I’ve got over 100k miles on my hd2 kit.
Never had any problems with the solenoid pack.

I dont recall seeing anyone ever suggest a correlation other than the OP.

I suggest the correlation because the errors in the solenoid pack is in 1st and 2nd gears, and those are the specific changes made to the valve body with the HD-2 kit.

If I recall, all the accumulator springs get swapped out with the HD2 kit. Not just 1 and 2.

Exactly what errors are you getting?
Maybe something else is causing the problem.

All those codes point to 2nd gear.

So, how well does it shift?
Does it immediately go into limp mode?
Are you able to shift it manually 1-2-D ?

To me it seems like solenoid pack unless it’s shift into 2nd is either hard or unable to hold the gear or is slipping.

The 2nd gear clutch is also used for ——. So you should notice a problem with ——

Edit- it’s 5th gear that uses the 2nd gear clutch

I am finding:
P0755-2C SOLENOID CIRCUIT
P1736-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 2ND PRIME
P1790-FAULT IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHIFT

I have read gear ratio faults typically mean slippage, but it is curious it is in 2 prime. we dont use 2 prime in our RFEs, do we?

The 454RFE uses both "2nd" gears just like the 45RFE,one for normal upshifting(prime) and the other is for WOT downshifting only.

2nd prime is rarely ever used.
But because 2nd prime and 4th gear both use the 4C clutch, a problem with 4th gear would definitely be noticed.

The only physical indication I'm getting is hard shifting from 2nd to 3rd and limp mode. It's intermittent as well, it goes away usually after it warms up and will go into 4th/5th.

Yup, seems like solenoid pack.
Clutches and hydraulics seem to be ok.
