Half finished with the front end rebuild! Drivers side finished.

Image

But! my front drivers side caliper is seized up.... so I ordered the powerstop kit from Jegs. New rotors, calipers, pads... on Monday.. literally everything in the front will be new, minus axle shafts. one lower ball joint turned into...

The previous owner of my XJ put on those stupid adapter type lug nuts on the Jeep. Knowing from previous experience that those adapter or locking lug nuts are no bueno I had ordered original mopar ones to replace them. The plan was to install them in between the front end rebuild as an easy but worthwhile break.... and sure enough... the adapter broke.... on the the last rim (front passenger) after 3 lug nuts were off... so I had to call a friend to go to discount tire to get an adapter... which took 5 hrs... but beggers cant be choosers... and I was grateful... just sayin... 5 hrs! Lol :5SHOTS:

Image

New moog ball joints have no outer boot..... of course I got mad when I opened the box and there was no boot... always read instructions... :google:
Looks weird with a gap, but I guess its kosher...

Later dudes, back to the garage! :JEEPIN:

I got the front all finished :pepper: ... drive to trailquest to get an alignment and now notice a horrible driveline vibration on the way there. :banghead:
I was worried at first that it was something I did.... but then assumed it had to be one of the rear driveshaft u joints.... the last three parts in the kitchen to be installed(minus brakes)
Trailquest said my pinion angle was off.... I said no way... lol. They didnt even look at it... no further comment on that....
Determined to finish the last 3 u joints... I drove back and took the rear driveshaft out... sure enough... to my surprise...
The worst u joint I have ever seen... :BINGO:

Image

Image

So I got all 3 of those u joints pressed out and new ones pressed in...
Next, grease the 20 zerk fittings..

Go to grease the front driveshaft.... and notice that the idiot's at Goodyear in Indian Trail who did my u joints during Christmas break (when my front u joint exploded) put two grease caps on one u joint... :ROTFL: :banghead:
So one u joint has no grease fitting and the other one has two.. I swear...

Pulling the front shaft today... and fixing their mistake...then brakes.......

I can't wait to drive this thing when its 100%!!! :JEEPIN:

Brakes finished!
Front driveshaft out.... stupid Goodyear messed up both the u joint caps in the cardan joint. It got me back home without a tow truck I guess...
I'm trying spicer u joints for the front... going to see if moog or spicer lasts longer... they arrive Sat..... then on to bigger and better things!

It drives fantastic! Like a new vehicle! :JEEPIN:

Looks like fun Chris...NOT. I had to do that to my son's Cherokee, rebuild the whole front end, bushings, ball joints, all steering components...trying to figure out our death wobble. I sure wished I knew about the cross over conversion for the center/drag link before replacing the other parts.

I must be crazy..... :dizzy: it was fun! Tearing down the XJ for the first time was a piece of cake... minus the pin I dropped in a u joint pressing it in... :banghead: lol
I have way more/better tools and experience than I did when I had the Liberty, but so far it is WAY easier!
I also have zero rust issues which makes everything much easier and cleaner, and knowing what you are doing is improving your vehicle makes it worth while.

It's like a puzzle.. for men..

I had the tires rotated and re balanced yesterday.... Drives like a dream! For sure could take it across country without any issues... :JEEPIN:

There is free food and display vehicles at the 4WPARTS store in Columbus Saturday MARCH 9TH. 9am-5pm if anyone is interested....

Sounds like fun for......you, :ROTFL: last time I was there I was disappointed and Manager was an a**.
I had talked to him about several things and then as he was walking out with me, I started towards the KJ, he stopped and said I thought you had a REAL jeep. Sorry but we don't have anything for you. ( I was looking at bumpers to try and come up with adapter plates for the KJ to use TJ bumpers ) Already had told him I was going to adapt it to another Jeep, but Oh well............... :ROTFL: :JEEPIN: :ROTFL: :JEEPIN:

I Got to clean the XJ while it was 70 for a day...
And
I Found some rust! passenger side front door...
Horrible!
I sprayed it with fluid film for now... Image

Inner fender wells and frame look fantastic...

I noticed my passenger side turn signal on the side was out so I figured might as well replace all 13 bulbs on the outside... freaking $60! And that's for the cheapest ones... no fancy LED's...Jeez!

I also replaced the chrome grill and headlight bezels.... no pics of that yet.. but man is it shiny! Way better than the old chipped up one...

That is all for now... :JEEPIN:

You guys are too slow!

Goodbye random, blue, off-centered, cheap freedom decal...
Actually took away the Cherokee's freedom....

Had to be changed!

I'm lifting a Subaru Legacy 3.0 R!
My buddy was sick of hitting his hitch...
Kit is from Subtle Solutions...
Did the front on Friday.. plus new hubs, tie rods, ball joints, hood struts, swaybar end links, and oil change.
Going to try to get it finished tomorrow.

The MOPAR Nationals, outside of Columbus are just around the corner in August. Here is just the kind of place to find all loyalties of the MOPAR family.

That lift party at Sperb's was my first time meet. Then I drove the Tahoe up to the meet at your house.

Did anyone hear from Nick ( techman)? I heard his city got hammered with those tornadoes that ravished Dayton area.
