Have a boot with no damage, but is leaking grease around clamp. The clamp is a little loose and I want to remove the clamp, add grease with syringe and install new clamp.
How do I know when I have enough grease without having too much and damage the boot?
How tight do you tighten the clamp?

I don't know what the tool is called but it pulls the clamp tight...any suspension shop should be able to help you pretty cheap...probably cheaper than buying the tool.

This is what the tool looks like but I believe the factory clamps are welded in place. When I replaced the boots on my 2002 I had to cut the clamps off with a die grinder. The replacement clamps use the tool below. It's available at any autoparts store.

I know I can 'rent' the tool free from kragen, but how do I know when i have enough grease in? And do the clamp pliers just only squeeze the proper tighnesss? I guess I am making this more complicated than it is. Probably just do.

Ok first off, you probably don't need to add grease unless it lost ALOT. When I replaced the whole boot on mine a few weeks ago there was still alot of grease and it had been leaking slowly for sometime.


As for the clamp, if you can't get the tool... grap dremel tool with a cut off wheel and carefully cut off the factory clamp. Now go find a hose clamp that will fit. I ended up doing this to the small clamp becuase the home made clamping tool didn't get it tight.
