If the rattle is mostly heard at idle, it could be the motor mounts. They have moving parts in them that wear out with age and go bad.
Back in 2014 I chased a rattle for a while replacing idler pulleys, tensioner pulley, and serpentine belt before replacing the motor mounts.
Once I did this, the rattle at idle was gone!
After I got the old motor mounts off, one of them, if you shook it by hand sounded like a coffee can full of nuts and bolts.
The motor mounts have a history of this problem I later found out. Several others have discovered that same thing.
Thanks WW,
This rattle just appeared after a long trip. Seems to come from the passenger side and vibrates into the engine cover.
Q - Do engine and or transmission mounts just decide to croak? That will be my next items to check.
Idler Pulleys and tensioner done done today. The two halves of the center idler pulley were separated and rattle when I shook it.
Had to pull the AC pulley to get the belt tensioner R and R.
Tomorrow will be attacking the turbo air hose and replacing with on of Seth's silicone replacements.
Thankfully I have a well stocked garage; you need every conceivable metric tool on the planet to work on these little tractors
