I just got finished checking out my brakes and they were making a really rough grinding noise when I slammed the brakes and I noticed that my pin was not moving freely. I figured out how to remove them but I noticed they were both different bolts. Is it supposed to be like this or did the previous owner mess up. Image

Same caliper has 2 different pins, one has a rubber boot/sleeve and one not. I don't remember the size of them, but I can tell you they are different, if you had them on, I assume those are good. Just remove the rubber boot/sleeve, it tends to make the caliper stick, and best is to fill the accordion boots with high temp ceramic grease (purple one). Rubber boot/sleeve on the pin tends to get swollen and drags the brakes, it is put in there for noise reduction (so you won't hear any click/clack when you break). I have removed mine and never had a dragging front caliper (I had one set of front rotors getting warped from dragging brakes), and recently, with reman calipers, also removed that rubber boot/sleeve, fill with high temp grease and you won't hear anything if enough grease inside.

Ohh ok that makes sense. I thought the boot was to stop dirt from getting inside or letting the grease outside. The grease isn’t any good so ima have to get some so hopefully that fixes the problem.

The accordion boots are supposed to keep dirt away, I think you can buy them separately also. In time they loose the elasticity and allow dust and water to get in.

I just replaced the rubber boots and the rubber on the pin but the rubber on the pin makes it have a lot more resistance idk if that is normalImage

Make sure it's clean with no rust inside the caliper pin holes.

A wire brush on a drill works good !
