I was wandering if the Jet power chip would be a noticable improvement over stock? Tossed around the idea of doing the K&N cold air intake, Jet chip and a Hooker Aero chamber muffler, if you have any thoughts feel free to drop me a line...

Thanks

Can't swear by it, but I believe I have heard from others on here that it really doesn't offer much improvement. At least not enough to justify buying it. If you do a search you should be able to come up with something on it. It's been brought up before.

I have one in mine, not the biggest improvement in the world, but there is an improvement, it seems give better fuel economy, and you can do sweet burnouts (if thats your thing) Throttle response is also improved. I also noticed it shifts better. You also have to run premium only and with the stage 2 you need a cold air intake and free flow exhaust. (I work at a parts store so it was cheap for me)

K&N's FIPK gave me an extra 1.5-2 MPG.

Isn't it REALLY bad to run premium in an engine designed for 87?

I don't think so, but with the simple mods I have I found it runs a lot better with the good stuff

Thanks for the replies... Does the Stage 1 chip from Jet require you to run 93 also? The Hypertech on my Ram made a noticable difference , but avery auto is differnt. 1.5 - 2 mpg better defintely does sound sweet with the K&N cold air intake....

On the dyno, the stage 1 lowered peak horsepower by 5 hp when we tested it.

Do not put a piggyback chip in it. All it does is tighten your shifting slightly, lean out your air/fuel a little, and raise your timing, util the adaptives in your ECU adjust and you loose most of the effect. Then you have to disconnect your battery, and get it to reset to get the slight increase back.

You need a reprogrammed ECU with the torque management deleted from B&G, and a TransGo shift kit if you want a big difference that is permanent. You should upgrade your torque converter with one from APS while you're at it. Instead of loosing around 20% of the power like stock, they only loose around 12%. The converter alone is worth around 10-15 more hp to the ground.

Thanks KY Liberty for your knoweledge of the Libbys. A cold air intake and a muffler sounds better now... How much does the APS convertor run?

The torque converter is $460 plus $125 core and $37 shipping. The performance shift kit is $105 plus $9 shipping. You should do both and the B&G flash at the same time. Otherwise it may act a little squirlly. The B&G flash is $450. With labor expect to have about $1500 in it.

This is the necessary step if you want to make any more power with the Liberty, once you upgrade the intake and exhaust. The secret is out. It will also make a large difference in performance. 4.10 gears should be the next $1500 you spend if you want more.

Reading my owners manual, it says that when you are going to be towing a trailer to run it on premium in order to get the maximum towing capacity, not reg 87.
