We had a fun, albeit really weird, day.
We decided to head up what I think was Mary Ellen Gulch, but when we got there it had disappeared. I don't know if I was just totally lost, or if the mine reclamation work that's going on up there obliterated the trail.
In any case, we hit a dead end, so we decided to try Forest Lake.
We headed that direction and, about 1/4 mile from the trail head, we got sidetracked. A married couple passed us on a pair of quads. The guy passed us first (I was in the lead), and hit a little crevice in the road that almost flipped him over. He was about 100 feet ahead of me when he hit it, so I didn't really notice.
Well, his wife was about 50 feet behind him, and hit the dip at about 25 mph. The quad bounced in the air and rolled 3 or 4 time, and finally landed right-side-up. Luckily, she was thrown clear when the quad bounced in the air, so it didn't roll on top of her. Luckily, she was wearing a helmet (broken now), and ended up with only scrapes, cuts, bruises, and some lost skin on one of her legs, an arm, and both hands. Very fortunate.
So, we ended up spending the next few hours bandaging her up (luckly Jason/1stJeepKJ knows quite a bit about first aid, and I had my first aid kit with me) and getting them back to their truck. The quad was still running, but has a bent axle and the bead on the right rear tire popped, so we had to drive it all the way back to the reservoir on a flat tire.
All in all a memorable adventure. Hopefully the next run will be more...um...normal.
