If you need one let me know. Mine is for sale. I found out the hard way it will not fit a CRD. :?

The front dif. on the CRD’s is mounted closer to the crossmember. There is not sufficient clearance in between them. The differential is the same but, you just don’t have the same room around it for the collar. At least on the 2.8L US version, I can't say for the Aussies with the 2.5L.

Does this mean that a lifted CRD cv shaft angles wouldnt be as severe as an equally lifted gasser?

That is an interesting question. My CRD shafts at rest on a stock CRD do angle up quite a bit. The front diff "might" be mounted just a bit lower on a CRD than a 3.7L. That makes a little more sense than it being shifted more to the drivers side which would mean different axle shaft lengths left and right from the gasser. It looks like the CRDs might come from the factory with a 1/4" Cradle Drop ...

I wonder if the replaceable Diff Mount ( the one on top with bushing material built in ) is a different part number for the 3.7L than the CRD. If it is, the 3.7L would be able to change the mount and lower thier front diff 1/4" or so. Nah, it could not be that easy  It would have to mean that the end mounts were different also...could be tho

Yea, your crossmember is different too. I think it is the same as what's used in the US for the '02, '03, and early '04. Sometime during the "04 year DC changed the crossmember so it doesn't have the round indentations in the corners.

Image

When I got my ring and it didn't fit. I went to my local dealer and looked at the CRD vs. Gassers and found almost an inch difference in clearance between the two. As Darby' said. The CV joints on stock CRD's set at a much higher angle. This explains why after a 2.5" Daystar lift. My CV joints are actually straighter than stock.

Image

Since this photo was taken I have given it a clevis lift and my joints are still at a better angle than most gassers I have seen with a Rustys or Frankenlift.

That is some great information...I like when my guess, with the help of Jeger, actually works out. This means a 2.5" lift on a CRD does not press the limits like on the gassers. Sometimes we just get lucky!

I believe I'd rather have the better CV angles than the collar. The collar is a good idea, and I'd like to have one, but those angles look real nice compared to other 2.5" inch lifts I've seen pics of. My Mopar skids hopefully go on tomorrow. Those pics make me want a lift. 8)

Holy Crap......a Huge Novelty sized penny has just fallen on the floor next to me !!!  It all makes sense ! I wondered why i've heard a few comments on here about the CRD's having a slightly lower diff mount - ie CV's ect - I think Al has said it a few times too!

The CRD Engine requires the diff to be a tad lower as the engine is taller and the sump comes down a bit furthur !! It really does seem logical !!
I wondered for a while why after a 2.5" lift, my front CV's are parallel to the ground when everyone with the gasers said it didnt seem like I had a 2.5" lift from the pics!!!

COOOL!!!!! More good news for the CRD's !!

Sweet, I think I'm going to go ahead with the 2.5" Daystar spacer lift now (KJ09116). Then I will likely follow it by a set of Kumho Road Venture MT 834's in 245x75-16 http://www.kumhousa.com/Products/PtnDet ... =PtnDetail
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... es&place=8

Now I just need to figure out where to buy the Daystar set from. All J Products (www.boulderbars.com) Has it listed for $260, but that seems a little steep for four hockey pucks and 2 strut plates. Is there any other reputable dealer that sells for less, or am I better of just paying a little extra for the good customer service All J appearantly provides?

Also, what is the rational in changing out the strut plate anyway? What is wrong with the stock strut plates, are they weak?

The liberator with the superlift is also a CRD I wonder if all this helped in designing the lift. I also wonder what the means for the gassers.
