Hi Guys
This is Paul, Matt's son. I am sad to report that Matt has passed away today. He went to the hospital last Thursday for a minor TIA and was released. On Saturday, he was complaining of a headache to his wife, Laura and they decided to go to the hospital. He walked in under his own power. After that, he went downhill. Out and unresponsive. He was flown down to Stanford and Laura and I drove down. An MRI showed a massive bleed in the right region of the brain. He was kept alive artificially for the night and day today, but the neurosurgions felt with all certainty that he was brain dead and had no chance for recovery. He passed away about 4:30 today.
I will keep you guys posted on memorial services and were to send well wishes to Laura.
Thanks and take care of yourselves. Life is fragile.
Paul

I am in shock! Matt was supposed to meet up with us on Saturday to go wheeling at Last Chance canyon here in Cali. He cancelled on Thursday after reporting that he had a mild stroke but claimed he felt fine and would see us in the near future on another run.

Matt was a good guy who had a love for Jeeping and the people in this sport/hobby. He went out of his way to help people and he was always upbeat and fun. I miss him and it is tough to even type this.....

I'll be back for more memories of matty......

May we all be reminded that life is indeed fragile. From what (too) little interaction I had with Matt through L.O.S.T. he seemed like he was making the most of the short time we're given. For me he was one of the very first celebrities here. Always helpful, always knowledgeable, always a gentleman...certainly someone to look up to. He surely will be missed here.

May his family's grief pass quickly.

This is so sad. I just realized, life is too short to be mad at someone you love or someone you care. So go ahead, give that hug to those you love and tell them you love them. You never know if you will see them again, or if they will see you. This is life and nobody knows when it will end.

My prayers and condolences to his family.

Wow, I am another that is saddened by hearing of Matty passing away. Even though we never met, he was someone I looked to for guidance and inspiration here on L.O.S.T. He was always ready to lend a hand to help someone out and had a great sense of humor.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and may he rest in piece. Like others have said, he is watching over us all.

I was sadden to hear the news of Matt's passing. My brother and I first met him and a group from LOST in Moab while wheeling with NAXJA. Very friendly man and group.

Your family is in our thoughts.

Mary

Man....This is a total shock
I was looking forward to next year's MOAB run so I can enjoy his and Laura's company again
He was such a character on the trails and outside of them here in the forum.
My condolences to his family - he will be missed for sure.
