Has anyone used the Amsoil ATF transmission fluid in place of the
mopar ATF+4. According to Amsoil's website, their ATF is a replacement
for the mopar.

Thanks,

I switched out the filters and replaced the ATF with Amsoil UATF at about 2500 miles in my CRD. Did it again at 25K miles. Got 32K on the CRD now. Will probably change it again at 50K.

Good results. Can't say if it is the Amsoil or not, but I have never had the "shuddering" that others claim they have had with their tranny. I frequently pull a number of trailers including a 300 gallon fuel trailer with it and the CRD gets a regular workout off the road checking fencelines, moving cattle, etc and in some heavy snow and mud. Cornfields and pastures on hilly terrain.

Good product. Can't say that it is the "ultimate" ATF and have never done any oil analysis on the stuff. I use Amsoil in just about everything I own and I get it at Preferred Customer pricing. Have done oil analysis on the Amsoil I use in the CRD engine and results have been pretty good.

Other than the obvious issue of voiding your warranty - why would you want to? The service schedule says 62,500 miles for schedule 'B' ('severe' service). It seems that you've spent a lot of money you didn't need to.

ATF +4 is also a good product, with over 6.4 million miles of testing behind it. (I know - I conducted it)

Hi Danoid,

Non-Mopar ATF will void the factory warranty, or this fluid in particular?

If Jeep won't warranty it Amsoil will(if the fliud was at fault),it's part of there thing, they back there fliuds even if the dealer won't.

Mopar ATF+4 is made by Valvoline,so the Valvoline ATF+4 is good to go.

per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act - Chrysler can require the technical specification for the fluid - they cannot require a name brand.

OK my bad. Amsoil ATF is certified to ATF +4 specification. I retract anything I wrote about voiding a warranty.

According to amsoil's website it's recommended for ATF+4 applications, not that it's certified to comply. I have a hard time believing that a universal fluid is the ideal thing for any transmission.

As opposed to the amount of money spent by others on the forum trying to tweak to change the CRD into something else? I changed it again at 25K because of the F37 that was done at the dealer and they had a mix of Mopar and the Amsoil after they were done so I had it flushed and filters changed and replaced with only Amsoil. Not been a fan of mixed oils.

Why are you so concerned with my spending habits? I never told anyone to change theirs as often as I did. If I had done that, you would have a dog in this hunt.

I agree with you Cowpie1,I just turned 60,000 miles and this will be my 4th tranny flush(with filter change, all 4 times),that's a fluid change every 15,000 miles.I use the ATF+4 but it's not cheap either.Heck I change the t-case fluid every second engine oil change since I wheel mine hard and it ends pretty dark by 6000 miles so I change it.

I know you retracted your statement but I want everyone to understand that NO DEALER OR MFG CAN DICTATE WHAT FLUIDS OR CHANGE INTERVALS YOU USE FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES UNLESS THEY SUPPLY SAID FLUID FOR FREE. In warranty situations it is the MFG that has to prove or disprove what caused a failure if they suspect fluid problems. Since Amsoil came to market in 1972, NO MFG has ever found cause for warranty rejection due to use of Amsoil products.
That said, Mopar ATF+4 is a good lube. However, the Full synthetic properties of Amsoil ATF along with the additional high end additives it includes make it even better than plain old, whatever brand, ATF+4.
Just remember, those other brands only have to meet a minimum performance point and Amsoils goal is to blow minimum performance points out of the water. That is how they can continue to say, unchallenged, that they are best. When was the last time you saw any other oil company name names in comparison testing and show their products beating the rest in any performance testing? :?

OOOOPpppppppSSSssss!!! Slipped off my dang soap box again.... ouch!

The service manual says a lot of ridiculous things such as, implying that the transmission should last for the life of the vehicle. Has anyone on this forum had any transmission problems? Anyone..anyone? But seriously, changing the ATF every 25k miles or so is just cheap insurance against an extremely repair. I had mine changed at 20 k for the F37. I now have 44ki and lately for some reason it won't go into overdrive until the engine is very warm even on fairly warm days. When I check the dipstick it does not smell burnt and is not especially dark but does seem to be thicker than it should so, time for another filter and fluid just to see what happens.

It states in the ownerrs manual that it will not lock the torque converter till the transmission fluid has reached a certain temperature. Being winter here it can take several miles to warm up
