ok there...i see the tension building more for you then me!?LOL well i'm in durham over the weekend but when i get back i will have new pics...alittle history...went with the rough country 3 inch lift a year and a half ago...it lifted fine but needed some other things...the rear was too low so i added a 2 inch spacer and jba uppers...wheeled like this for a couple pf months until i got my new tires...245/75/16
Image
and then with the 265/75/16...i had to do alot of fender triming on the inside but was worth it...
Image

so played a while with this set up and KA BOOM!! goes the front diff...on sand at that...hill climbing...so purchase brand new everything plus 4:10's and was happy but knew it could happend again...so i thought about a custom ifs 44 and then i relized a dream...lol SAS...so it took me about 4 months to get everything i needed...also i had a stricked budget so i needed to go with alot of used parts which knocked the cost way down...i will post again on how much things cost...

now the custom shop that is doing this is a good friend of mine and gave me a great deal on labor...he also told me he would be willing to more by using set prices...for example...he has a set price of a wrangler v8 swap for i think 13000.00...this includes everthing you would need to do that swap...now for the sas we are working on a bottom line number to work on and would be adjusted to extra things you might want...

now some early pics...these are just with the front mostly out and the rear springs, y link relocator...springs and y link are from JBA...you'll notice a rear spacer that is just there for now till after we see were the front sits...

now this was supose to be a decently quik build but the plasma cutter head broke twice so went back almost two weeks.........MORE TO COME.....

Excellent news.

So far, we are looking at about $3,400 + tires/rims.

If you can actually bring this in for $5k + tires/rims, I think you'll have a real solid customer base.

I think that your choice of front ends is solid as it has acceptable strength for the tire sizes that can be run, good availability, and a decent price on the used market. The stock 8.25 is an acceptable rear, again, for the tires sizes mmost likely to be run. It seems that you could run this set up for a while & get bigger axles, if you wanted, by merely adapting the brackets onto your replacements, or you could spend more $$$ up front & go with a 44/44 or 44/60 combo, or hp44/9". The choices are endless.

BTW: Your driveshaft prices look dang good. I have always kept drivesshaft work prices down by grabbing longer junkyard shafts & having them worked/shortened. That seemed to be a way less expensive way to go, but still more than you are paying.

Good post, good luck, and keep it coming!

So how goes the fun with the YJ steering box? It would be easier to use a Ford steering box from a '90-'91 "F" series pick-up(or any Bronco II,"E" series vans from '90-'91),all the same steering box and is a reverse steer box and the KJ steering shaft will slip right on and the box will be more tucked up into the unibody then extending the YJ box way out in smash land.

Just to let you know 4.56's would be the gear choice for 33" tires and the 3.7 powerband, will get better mpg's and better offroad performance, just a sugestion.

i really wanted to do lower gearing but that would of meant for more money to replace the rear as well...i plan to go wull widths next year so the money could go to that

I think he was wanting to save some coin right now and get it on the road and then upgrade as things progressed. He already had 4.10s in the rear and since he is thinking of upgrading later this way he only had to buy 4.10s for the front right now.

rear end looks good cant wait to see the front. how ar eyou going to run your front coil overs? i thought jsut using the stud to eye conversion bracket that bolts in to the upper strut plate as a mounting block. till a new one could be fabricated.

You missed the posts about using the box from a Ford Bronco II?? Many Fords use the same box so it can actually be found in several applications. I even posted the part number in my thread on the cost and parts. I was wondering how you were going to get the YJ box to work.

ok this is rough pics but things to be done still...axle needs to be re-geared and all new parts on it...coil overs need to be mounted...track bar mounted...all raw metal needs to be painted...drive shaft...alittle more boxing the frame...as far as rear, longer control arms and that's it, will have next pics of jeep when sitting on tires again...
Image
Image
Image

these are not to good pics but they work for now
when you see the coil overs you will notice two different color eibach springs...there was a long waiting list for the poundage i wanted in red so i setteled with the polished until the reds get in...that will be up with next set of pics

I Want to do this so incredibly bad, but there is no way i could afford it, and if i could I couldnt afford the gas.

Once a i get another daily driver I might have to do this, everything looks so simple. I know it takes a great deal of work and experience. But your SAS is going to be the range i want, not like JJ's which if i remember, ran around 25-30K.

Has anyone gotten serious about an engine swap?

couldn't afford the gas??? If you sit it up right matching your gears to the tires you want to run, mileage should not be much different. One of the trucks I built (79 Ford short bed with a 351, 4 speed back years ago) actually got better mileage with 40s than it did with the stock set up, went from 30 inch tires and 3.55s stock to 40 inch tires and 5.13s. Heck that was my daily driver to work everyday 50 miles away!
