It finally annoyed me enough to get my fiance to sit back there and try to figure out exactly where the rattle was coming from. We determined it was coming from somewhere near the latch on the rear window, but couldn't figure out if it was the galss, or something inside the lower swing gate.
When I got home I checked EVERYTHING behind the drivers seat. Rear seat belts, rear seat latches (for folding down the seats), the jack, the vent visors, the rear side glass, the pad on the back window, the struts on the window and all the interior plastic molding. Everything was tight, so I decided to pull the plastic interior off of the inside of the swing gate.
To do so, pull up on the top part, it's held in place by metal clips the fit into slots alot the top of the gate, then pull out on the bottom, it held in by plastic rivets. Those rivets have a ring around them which a notch on the plastic interior piece fits into.
Underneath I found a piece of thick plastic the is supposed to stick to the gate. It had come loose, so I stuck it back on. I suspect it was flapping around hitting the inside of the gate and the back of the plastic trim piece. I also made sure I got all the notches back on the rivets, it's a little tricky, but not hard to do. My other guess from where the noise came from would be the the plastic trim piece slipped off on of the rivets.
Anyway, my noise is gone...at least until this post jinxes it.
