Oh man. I just got back from a little bit of roaming with my jeep, and all I can say is that I'm THOROUGHLY impressed all over again. I've done some decent stuff before, but this was definitley the hairiest. One of my friends and I went out in my JK so that he could learn about "The Jeep Thing"...I let him have it and then some.
We started the trip on an old railroad bed that has some big puddles, but nothing there was a big deal. Just driving on washboard road pretty much...
Then I spotted a trail that spun off the railroad bed that began with a stream crossing between two rocks that I definitley wouldn't fit between. I crossed the stream, crawled over the rocks, he told me that he almost crapped himself (the rocks weren't even that big...), and we continued on our merry way. The rest of that trail wasn't that interesting, just snow and ice leading back up to a real road.
I was going to take him on the shakeout trail that I usually take people on, but when we got there I found out that it was closed

. It's now posted private property with boulders across the trailhead...
We went over to the next town where I had found a trail back in january, but I couldn't find it again...just as well, we hit the holy (hilly) grail of NH wheeling: a GIGANTIC new development is going up, and none of the lots are finished whatsoever, and all of the roads going around are rocky, rutted, muddy, messy, crappy, and basically jeep territory. The roads were one thing, the grading they started on the lots is another. Pretty much just big gravel/rock piles. There were some REALLY REALLY steep, muddy hills that we climbed (I'm betting that they were probally around 40+degrees) with (mostly) ease, some off-camber sections...oh god it was just amazing. I'm going to pick up my dog from surgery now, but on the way home I'll try to convince my other half to retrace the ride and I'll take pictures of the obstacles and such and post them when we get back.
