After a 50 Minute drive over country roads with many bends I checked out my rear axle and found the bulb part quite warm to the touch.
I checked al other parts of the axle and brakes but they where cool, it is just the bulb with the LSD in it.
I also checked the oil level and it was just under the filler opening as recomended.
Is this normal? does the bulb part of the rear axle get hot?

Yes it is normal. I only have tested it by touch but I did notice a fair drop in the temp of the rear diff after switching to Amsoil Severe Gear full synthetic in my wifes KJ. I don't know what gear lube was in there prior to changing. I never did the before and after touch test on my blue KJ but I do recall it getting pretty hot too. I need to get one of those laser thermometer testers for stuff like this.

As long as it's not to hot to touch you will be fine. When it gets to hot to touch is when you are having some major internal issues.Switching to a good synthetic gear oil will help.
