Next in line for my mods is getting a remote start installed before winter hits. I have a 2005 4x4 Sport with the factory keyless entry stuff.

My questions are: 1.) Has anyone installed an aftermarket remote start and which do they recommend? 2.) Can it be integrated with my existing key?

Thanks for any advice...

I’m kind of leery of after market remote start kits. I know a guy that installed one on his Grand and it tried to start the engine while going 55mph for no reason. Cost him a new starter and some pain in the neck for sure.

Pluss if you have the Sentry Keys, the jeep would not run unless the key was in the ignition anyway.

Jeep does have a Kit on the Mopar site that works with the Sentry keys though. Look under Alarms & Security.

As long as you find good installer, you should not have any problems. I used to sell UNGO and Code Alarm. Both are very good quality alarms. If you are installing it yourself, you should be able to find a site that has the wiring colors you will need to tap into. As far as the sentry key goes, some alarms have a box that you put a key into to trick the truck to think that a key is in the ingition.

Putting a key in those "bypass" modules defeats the entire purpose of the Sentry Key system. Your Jeep will be considerably easier to steal that way.

Me? I'd stick with Mopar. I try not to disable any of the security features on my $26k (about $33k with mods) vehicle.

I have a remote starter. I had it installed at a reputable shop. Mine is integrated into the computer. It also works all the locks and will start my vehicle from very far away and even inside stores like WalMart. It is great for warming up el KJ in the bitter western NY winter. I think it is called an Ultra Start and can be combined with their anti theft systems as well. Hope this helps.

p.s. I recommend this to anyone who lives in a cold climate.

Neatus, Can you confirm the brand you bought and where you got it from? I have been debating on whether to get one or not but, know that if it's not installed properly, it will be a BIG problem.

Thanks for the help.

BTW, I was on a 12 to 14 hour shifts last time I was in your neighborhood. Just too tired to do anything after the night shift. I'll let you know the next time I'm up there again.
