Just wondering, let's say I got the LR3 stuck off road, and brought the KJ to rescue it. Could the KJ do it? The LR3 weighs about 5600 pounds, and once you factory what ever it's stuck in/on, that could be maybe 8k. Could the KJ do it with the rear hitch? I was just wondering because someone on the LR3 forum is moving a 13k pound truck with theirs, and the LR3 is rated for 7716 pounds towing. The discussion lead to that tow ratings are more for what the vehicle can handle at high speeds, not just what it can pull at 4LO speeds.

I've recovered my buddies '01 F250 SD,crew cab shortbox, that's lifted 8" with 37" tires before when he was buried in mud past his tires.I didn't straight pull him but winched him while I was anchored to my other buddies '76 K1500,no snatch block either.

The most I've "Pulled" in a recovery not using my winch was at ECS where I pulled up 2 CRD's hooked together.

Here is a stock XJ. (I didn't want to pull him out in reverse, but things happen)

use a winch and tow strap from hitch to a tree and you should be fine. i have pulled suburbans out of mud like that and the up a hill with just the tow strap. but i would rather use the winch than the power train.

I snatched a F-350 on the beach before, took a couple tugs to get him loose, but it can be done. Your jeep will not like you for it though.

some one posted pulling an 18 wheeler off some ice in a rest area with a KK the other winter!!! I guess anything is possible. when pulling someone out its not all dead weight if they can turn wheels, just dont have enough traction to get going on their own. I would not pull in reverse if you can help it with a KJ or KK, I am told the front diff is not as strong as other Jeeps.

Only thing I have recovered was a snow bound BMW Z3

Says who? I pulled a loaded 1 ton work truck out of a ditch, while I was in 2 feet of snow in Holland, MI. I pulled in front of him, put her in 4-lo, and backed up. It looked kind of like a bulldog, pulling against the rains of a horse, but I got the job done. :-)r

(The only one more surprised than me was the driver of the truck.)

Had my 4-door JK totally hung up on a big boulder and used the KJ CRD with winch (Warn RockCrawler 9000lb) to pull the JK off the rock. The winch was dragging the Liberty across the dirt until it anchored into a mound of dirt.

I've pulled out several vehicles with my Jeep Liberty.

First...if you want to kill your KJ and the rig you are pulling do keep on having like 4 feet of slack in the towstrap... :?

Take the slack out first, then softly pull. Don't floor it, you will dig yourself in too!

Hoosier, if the Laro is under it's own steam (so someone else is driving it) you don't pull the 'dead' weight of it. You're just aiding it to move.
