You won't and neither will anyone else who buys a Fiat Wrangler. :-)r

To blackwidow I want to say: Beware of frame-rot. Check and double check the frame.

The LJ's you were looking at are not overpriced, it's just that there are not so many LJ's.

You can get a TJ for a lot less.

Here’s a funny story. We bought a brand new LJ right off the shipping truck for $23,000 in 2004. We owned it for almost two years and traded it in for our 2006 Dodge Cummins. The dealer gave me 21,000 for the trade-in. They do hold their value.

We will see what the insurance says about the Jeep. I'd just assume get a tailgate from a junk yard, put it on, get a good alignment, balance/rotate the tires and call it good. There is about $3000 left on my Jeep. So if there was the slightest frame/unibody damage, it wouldn't matter. Because once I pay it off it will be my trail rig and I will get another Jeep to daily drive.

blackwidowkj06, I don't know what the law is in Kentucky, but here in Wisconsin if they total your vehicle the insurance company has to reimburse you the sales tax on your replacement up to the assessed value of the totaled vehicle.

That said, if they do total it and you decide to keep it for a trail rig will they still insure it? I would assume that you wouldn't be putting it on a trailer to take it places. Even if you did, you'd probably still want liability.

If the frame/unibody are actually damaged are you going to take it to a frame shop for some repair? You probably want it structurally sound even if it aint perfectly straight.

Sorry, just some rambling thoughts I couldn't form into a Haiku. :-)r

Haha!!!
I have been rambling for days because of the concussion...I'm all better now and feel good.
Jeep was not totaled (thank goodness) and they only gave me little over $1,800 to fix the Jeep.
All it needs is a tailgate, alignment, flip out tires/rotate/balance and it will be good to go.

Jeep was not totaled (YAY!!!)
Knew it wouldn't be...that concussion really messed with me and that is no joke.
I feel much much better than I did before...

Plans for Jeep to get fixed...
-find tailgate from junk yard and put it on
-get an alignment
-flip out/rotate/balance tires
-replace rear drive shaft u-joints
-replace alternator and serp belt (timing belt)

I get a whining noise when pressing on the gas pedal, driving and sitting still. Factory OEM alternator has almost 80,000 on it and my serp belt could be changed. I narrowed it down to those two things that "could" be wrong.

I don't see how $1,800 will cover all the damage. But as long as your happy, that's all that matters.

I don't have time to fight with them. I'm graduating college soon and will be working soon.
I am happy though :-)

That's what suppliment claims are for and any good bodyshop will take care of it through the paying insurance company for you. They could find alot more damage when tore down then estimated, did it all the time when I worked at a bodyshop.Insurance company's never had a issue with them besides progressive, gieco, and e-insurance as there just looking after there own bottom line.

blackwidowkj06 it maybe to late but make sure your KJ get's measured on a frame rack, that will truely tells the amount of damage and should have been done before anything else.Cost's about $400-$500 but the paying insurance company has to pay that bill also.

I went to 3 body shops. None of them would listen to my claims of, "Hey I have possible body damage."
If I weren't for my friend Ryan being there when the adjuster came, I probably would have gotten a lot less. If I get enough claim money, I will pay off the KJ.
Tbh, I think that concussion really messed with my head. I notice that I'm not as moody or worried. Like I was when I had the concussion. In saying that, I probably stressed over the unibody/frame more than anything. Yet now it doesn't bother me. Jeep drives fine now, just needs an alignment and new ujoints.

I still don't get what an alignment has to do with a rear end collision.. There is nothing to 'align' on the rear of a KJ.

The front end is aligned off the rear end specs, even on a non-adjustable rear end setup like the KJ has.

Thank you to all who have helped answer my questions and gave me feedback on this subject. It has helped out a lot. Very blessed that the wreck wasn't worse than it was.

Yes, but what does it have to do with the damage to the rear? Did it need an aligment before the accident or did the Jeep start to feel 'funny' after the hit?

That would mean the rear axle is out of wack.

Had an alignment before I left for Wales, UK. Got back and 4 days later was hit. Hit the curb a little and knocked it out of alignment a tad bit. Now that I can think clearly, the Jeep doesn't seem that bad now. :-)
