I have seen other custom crossbars and just wanted to share my project. I got a Yakima road warrior basket from a friend for $20. I ordered some cheap crossbars and they did not fit my 05 crd very well. So I made some bars out of 1" square tube from lowes and some stainless u bolts from Mcmaster. http://www.mcmaster.com/#u-bolts/=zq0a3k The bolts fit tight and I had to shave some of the rubber coating off. They also have 1-1/4' u bolts that might be better.

Looks good.
I did pretty much the same thing using StrutBrace that I bought from Lowes.

Years ago on my 04 this was the way I mounted a roof rack
All Thread 1/2 inch bolt went side to side, between the rails was one inch black gas pipe, nut on inside and outside of the rail kept everything tight
Kept the basket down nice and low

I like the low mount! So you drilled right through the factory rails? My setup is a tad temporary.. I want to get an offroad rack that replaces the factory rails... This setup cost me about $50 since I got the basket for $20 from a friend that got it from a friend for free.

Cheers

Yes drilled right through them
I've had that one and also two different other ones as well.
Both bolt on racks
first one after the one above
