Is their any bad effects to the drivetrain of reverse/driving a car without starting the engine. For example inside/outside a garage/driveway. Because I always have to move my Jeep or other cars because somebody is blocking another car. Does this use up a lot of gas and wear out the drivetrain. I find it a waste to start up a car to move it a couple hundred feet. I told you it would be a wierd question.

So you can just put I in drive/reverse and hit the gas. Because once I just forgot to turn the engine on and put I in gear and I moved. Do you actually have to push it. What gear do you have it in?

I think your confused. Putting it into D and giving it gas when the engine is not running will do nothing. Just put it in N. Yes, you must push it if the engine is not running. :) My driveway is on a slight slope, after I get it moving it just rolls.

Edit: How do you forget to start the engine. :?

Im a very weird guy when it comes to stuff like this. Many people would think I have OCD, and I think I do, but I am very, VERY conservative. I dont like to use the power windows alot, dont like to use the auto door locks(Ill unlock them all 4 by hand if other people are getting in  ), dont like to drive my jeep alot, dont like to start it when it isnt needed. Yea, im crazy...

I often roll it out of the garage without starting it. It's not good to start a cold engine and then quickly turn it off. Builds up condensation in the oil, exhaust, and sludge in all oils like engine and tranny. Plus you're starting with battery then not charging it. For the occassional time, it's not a big deal. But why do you think there's a separate service interval for short trip driving?

But not using the power door locks and windows? Yes, you need help! Trust me, I'm anal retentive, you're just plain nuts! (And I mean that in the nice way  )

How do you put the windows down? :? What do you do when you have to move the Jeep to the other side of the driveway. You'll need some inside to turn the wheel, while you push! How often do you do this!!??

I didnt say I dont put the windows down, I said I dont like to use them alot.

Its can get kinda tricky. I turn the wheel, then get out and hold the wheel with my right hand and put my back up against the door jamb and push. Im usually going backwards since I pull up to the garage door. People need out of the garage and that what I do. :)

Thanks for the hug bullet!

Seems kinda scarey to me all around! I just have this image of my Jeep rolling away as I push off and not getting back in the cab soon enough...... You're a thrillseeker  to make that a one person task.

Ha Ha, That actually happened in my driveway! My brother's Bronco somehow rolled down the driveway and whacked the corner of the neighbor's brick house so hard that it moved a whole section of the brick wall inwards about 1/2". We heard the "thud" and ran outside. Luckily they weren't home and we never told them!

Why can't you park where no one else has to park, that way you wouldn't have to move?? Stay away from behind other cars or garage doors, if people are parked there to get out. That seems like a pain the the butt to me, if you do this stunt very often!!!!!!!!
