Well it's getting closer to that time when we(in CO) can start hitting the trails and was just wondering what everyone else carries in there rigs for a day of wheeling. The pic of my cargo area has about 75% of what I nornally carry,I'm I going overboard?I got 2 straps(1 15,000lbs,1 30,000lbs),inverter,powertank,cordless impact, enough tools to dismantle the KJ,fleece jacket, extra fluids, first aid kit, fire exstingusher(sorry can't spell),shackels,10 ton bottle jack,rags/towels,and when hitting the trails MRE's and water.I know it's alot but it's saved my butt many times having all of this and just wondering what you all carry.

I have no room for all of that man ... two kids and a dog kind of reprioritize things just a bit.

I always like carrying my big rubber boots

What kinda of "shelf" is that you have? Also, how do you keep everything from flying/moving around that is on the top shelf?

I quess you don't need flares or signal triangles with that color KJ...

The cargo shelf is made by Tomken and is bolted in.The powertank is bolted to the cargo shelf and everything else(besides the strap) is zip tied to the shelf(I love zip ties 8) ).The only thing that really moves and is annoying is the tools in the tool box,but the box it self is bolted to the floor pan.

Holy crap!!! Where would I put the dog? :D I take a cell phone, tow strap and some candy bars and water. If I need assistance, I'm up high enough to get a signal. My strategy wouldn't work for Moab, or anywhere else out of range. I actually went last weekend in the 4 mile area east of here. It was partially snow covered, but was solid. Did about a 14 mile loop.

Check it out, not that you need skids Darby, but they make them for the diesel too.

That's one heck of a hookup you got in there tjkj2002!

I'm just joking with this, not bashing the company, but that is an interesting skid plate they have at Tomken. "Liberty Desiel Gas Tank Skid Plate"...Diesel is misspelled and it's not a "gas" tank, it's a "diesel" tank. And the Mopar fuel tank skid fits both models. Is Tomken trying to say that's a Gas and Diesel fuel tank skid? Maybe it's supposed to be "Liberty Diesel/Gas Tank Skid Plate"

Anyway, just joking...it does look like a really nice skid. And I love the little mini light bar. I know, I know, it would probably fold like a candy wrapper if it actually touched something, and I'd lose my front tow-hook points, but it looks pretty cool. Thanks for that link GilaMonster!

Image

Woah! I just checked the price of that mini-lightbar! Holy  $275.38?!

Yeah Tomken's other stuff for KJ's look like they aren't worth a darn but the cargo rack is not that bad,had to bolt it in but it's light(pretty strong to) and way cheaper than AllJ's.[/quote]

I have a tow strap....if it ever gets here  . Oh, and the important stuff: 2 dog beds (covers the whole area), a spare leash, dog food, dog bowl, at least 2 dog toys, dog treats, clicker for the dog, his boots (It's actually HIS jeep  ). I also carry most of my camping gear: Dehydrated food, about 3 gallons of water, tent/groundcloth, JetBoil Stove (Boils 3 cups of water in 90seconds-fecking amazing), and occasionally I drive around with my sleeping bag and a change of clothes in my backpack, but only if I'm actually going camping. I'll take a picture of the back next time I'm all rigged up for camping.

I will not bother to list every thing I carry
but I do carry what I feel are the "little things" that when out wheeling the "harder trails" could leave you stranded
The things that I see people break all the time and not many have a spare let alone tools to change them are
U-joints easy as pie to replace cheep enough to carry a spare but if you need one and dont have one you are stuck
also break lines same as U-joints ,carry new stockers for a TJ left and right
I carry what I think are all the needed tools to get me home
I also carry some JB weld ,with this stuff you can fix a busted radiator or almost any thing else that you may break
WD-40 hand cleaner rags change of cloths depending on weather and no doubt OFF depending on what time of year I will have 2 or 3 cans rolling around in the back seat

I also prefer tool bags over a box just for the noise factor
and a picture is out of the questin especialy one like tjkj2002 if I try everthing will fall out its a TJ
I will be very happy when I get a new soft top the hard top meas that I have to get the air hose out through the doors and that just sucks bad

I can see how that would be crucial where you are.

Parts and tools are surely needed of course but I think alot of people overlook safety and proper/extra clothing. I'm quite new to wheeling and I've really only been on one run. But I believe, just as the trail guide/things need for the trail above mentions in this forum, that a First-Aid kit should always be in your Jeep when offroading. I believe that I when I put together a small box of things I'll need for my next trip and I will surely include this.

Extra clothes are a definite must...especially in the winter. Not long ago when a friend and me went on a trip to pull people out of the drifts on our country roads, I included plenty of clothes incase of a breakdown or we if were stranded. I always carry a few extra sweatshirts, an extra pair of boots, a hat and insulated gloves as well as a good warm winter jacket with me, no matter where I go. I will always keep these in my jeep, you never know when you may need them.

I also carry a small mag light with me. I can't count how many times I've used it.
