I am not sure if there is a thread that involves this but I was curious what everyones gas miles are...My 2004 Limited only gets about 13.4 MPG, well that is what the computer thing reads. Does this seem low to anyone and what is everyone else's gas miles?

Thanks

Yes that is to low. The computer is known to be wrong.
Do you have a lift or bigger tires?

I drive at least 90% highway miles and I usually get around 21.5mpg on the trip computer. I also measure it the old fashion way and I've been getting just over 20 mpg. The trip meter is consistently 1-2 mph high.

If you are getting that low you must be doing a lot of hard city driving, or you've got a problem with the vehicle.

Hey Dan, good to hear from you again. Yes I do. 44 miles each way, pure highway miles.

I'm using and old 4cyl Honda Accord for commuting now so the Libby is parked safely in the garage during the week thank you.

You do anything else to your vehicle since???

I was getting about that gas mileage until I changed my driving style. It's not as fun, but I can go further on a tank now. Plus, I'm preparing myself for the change once I get my lift. 8)

With the lift and tires I get the same mileage 13.3 mpg.

If I take a real long highway trip on relatively flat road I can barely stretch it to 20mpg with mostly cruise control at around 70mph. Normal city is around 14-15, normal everday mix w/highway to work is around 17.

04 gets 19 hwy @ 70 and 14 city. Running 235/70's and since it's 3 years old, I don't think it's going to get any better :( . I'm very disapointed in the over all mileage  . And from the looks at sales/lots around here, so are a lot of other KJ owners.

I am trying to keep the tach under 2. It's hard, really, really hard but I normally get about 75 miles for a 1/4 tank (in town driving, lots of stop and go) now it looks like I'll be getting close to 100. So be my estimate I would go from 15.5 MPG to around 19ish with the tach under 2. WARNING...it's tough. Sioux City is pretty hilly and in some spots it feels like you could walk faster up the hill. Anyway, I'll keep up with experiment for the sake of science.

I just got back from a Dayton to Chicago trip and saw 18 & 21 mpg (85-90 up, 77 back), mostly all on cc with the stock renny 235s. Y'all are making me rethink the lift & tires...

Yea I drive in town to and from work and filled up 17.814 gallons of gas after running for only 249 miles for a mpg rating of 13.978. I have a lift and larger tires so...

Looking to get a performance filter of some kind...K&N like I had in the last Jeep but read somewhere on it letting too much oil through it or something like that...JJSKJ any more news on an AMSOIL Air Filter for the KJ???

Do platinum or Iridium spark plugs help improve gas mileage because of the cleaner, better spark or something...I recall reading that around here somewhere...

There is also something about adding about 4oz. of acetone to your gas tank to help improve gas mileage. I think I'll wait on the long term test to see if it causes any damage to the engine after very consistent use...there is talk of it in the "Mileage Discussion" section.

The day after I lifted mine I took a trip to the other side of the state, very hilly down there (southeastern part of Ohio) but averaged about 20.2 for the trip. Now with the ARB on now not sure what it will do but I did run CC as much as possible and about 67/68 on the big road. Going down again in a couple of weeks will get some more numbers then. I had gotten about 3/4 mpg better before the lift running over 72/75 most of the way. I know the lift kills the mileage but IT IS A JEEP with 4 wheel drive so I know it will not ever get 30 MPGs , never thought that it would when I bought it. No matter how high the price of gas, I have never and will never drive one of those little cars.

I don't think anyone expects 30mpg (CRD's excluded), but it would be nice to be near the window sticker of 17/23. A hit of 10 mpg is fine if you never go far, but most folks are using these as their daily driver, and that lift could cost you a lot. Consider this, if you put 24,000 a year on your KJ (I know some of you must), then put on a lift and new tires, and drop 10mpg (23 to 13), then at $3.00 gas you are shelling out an extra $1500 per year to sit taller. If you've got the money, fine, but when gas goes to $4, your looking at $3200 per year. No thanks. I'd love to get a rusty's or a frankenlift and some big rubber, but not for $3k a year.
