hehe thats why i said it needs a redesign. My 95 country got 15/15, which was very interesting, highway mpg = city. My brother has a 99 Sport and it gets like 21 on the highway and 17 in the city. I dunno what the deal was with his, maybe the last owner had some kickass tuning to it lol. I miss my XJ, but I don't miss its 2WD, except that it could lay its torque down like a bat outta hell.

my buddy has an 05 Tj and we just went to the mountains. Its about a 3-4 hour drive, he got 13mpg highway!! i made fun of him since mine was getting 18-20 mpg, then he made fun of me when i bottomed out on a rut and he had to pull me out!!! good times

My 2004 with 30" tires and a 2in lift get 18 mpg on the HW. I still have him beat. I get 21-22 without them.
