I know it's crude, but there's really no other way to describe it. 3 times in the last 30 days the KJ has made a noise best described as a 'fart noise'. It is relatively soft, about 1-1.5 seconds long, and kind of a trumpet like sound to it ... a short low 'D' note if you will.

Anyway, I have no idea where it's coming from. I'm having no luck recreating it (yes yes ... insert your bean joke here). Twice I heard the noise while driving in a strait line at a constant speed, once I 'think' I heard it while the Jeep was off and parked in the garage. Does anyone have any serious ideas of what this might be before this topic goes too far down the wrong path?

My KJ has always done it since new, and I ain't figered it out yet. I do know that it will do it if I shut the rear gate hard. Try that and see if it will do it again. My KJ will do it even if it's been sittin for a little while all by itself.

I go camping alot and I noticed when tenting anywhere near where the libby is parked that it would make some weird noises every couple of hours - almost like a soft compressor like sound for about 1-2 seconds near the rear of the jeep?

This has happened dozens of times and it's loud enough that now I tent a little further away.

Purge solenoid.. It Checks for leaks in the evap system. Ive heard mine kick on a few times when I was outside working and such.

I believe its on the front of the gas tank.

Is it normal to be able to hear it, or does hearing it mean there is a leak of some kind? About a year ago I did have one hose replaced in the evap system right by the gas tank. It had caused my check engine light to come on, but it's stayed off since replacing the cracked hose.
