Rear axle fluid too thick and its flow ain't keeping up with the gear spinning.

Drive under 40 until it warms up.

It does it after hours of driving on the highway--as long as it is well below freezing, like 20 degrees farenheit. Doesn't sound like it comes from the rear-end.

It sounds like it is coming from somewhere in the front grill area, right?

Mine does the same thing, it definitely is power steering related. It whines when I first start it, then gets worse when I turn the wheel. Haven't checked the fluid yet. If the fluid is good, is there anything else to check?

No, I just think it's the pump warming up on these cold mornings. As long as the fluid level is OK - it's good to go.

I get the whine around 1800-2000 rpms, going straight, 2nd or 3rd gear (automatic). This could be power steering related? I was thinking it was the cold's affect on the auto transmission. But I don't know anything.

I get the same whine on start-up as well. The power steering fluid level looked fine, but it's just way too cold out here to check it out any farther.

As far as the crunching/squeeking sound: same as above, lube your sway bar bushings. I use white lithium grease on most of my stuff.
