I have a Garvin Wilderness 48x82x6" rack (rated for 500 pounds). It's huge, which looks awkward to some, but when I go camping, I can carry every last bit of gear up there, freeing up my interior for passengers. The more, the merrier, at least when I'm camping! I think it makes my KJ look like it's ready for any expedition. It's also very easy to add on lights, a shovel, and an ax. It probably cost me $20 for the hardware to mount the basket itself to my KJ, and mount my shovel, ax, and four Hella 500s to it. I recently bought 4x8' sheet of thick plywood, cut it to fit the floor of my rack, and then cut it in half. I have a two person tent that fits up there perfectly (now I need a Rover ladder). I'll post pics of this set-up once I have used it. I cut the wood floor in half so I wouldn't have a huge wing up there when I'm driving on the highway. The two pieces are 48x40", and I'm gonna buy some sort of cushioning, probably foam, to glue ontop of the wood.

Sorry guys, you just missed a $25.00 rebate from mopar parts that ended 3/31. That brought my basket down even more. I am rushed for time, but I will try to get the mopar basket photo here tomorrow using the host picture sight...

Has anyone here ever run a large thule like rack as well as running a cargo rack and could voice their opinions?

I personally have always liked my thule and I can put all my camping stuff that I want out of the Jeep up there, though I do wish it was bigger, I see no reason it couldnt fill up the whole roof space.....

Thanks andysrt, much appreciated. Someone said that they thought the mopar rack could be extended using a thule extension, but they don't look like they would line up right. Does anyone know of an available extension for the mopar basket?
I really like it, and it is very solid, but I just wish it was a tad longer, maybe 8-12 inches.(I'm talking about the rack!!)
Thanks again for help posting the pics.

that was me, seeing that yakima designed it, from what i was told that is, i was thinking that perhaps a yakima extension piece would fit in it, the rack is designed to accept an extension, or at least mine is with the 2 sections held together by an allen wrench bolt in the middle on both sides...only thing is, where can I find an extension to try this theory out, I don't want to buy one and it not work and then i'm stuck with it...

Same here 2006kjsport. Maybe someone here knows of an extension that will work. If not, I'm cool with it. I just don't want it to be soooo long that it doesn't look good i.e. hanging over the back. It is just a tad short for part oh my pontoon boat that I will put up there in order to do still water flyfishing. But I guess that is why they make bungee cords..

The factory roof basket appears to be identical to a brand called Sportrack . I saw one at a Canadian tire in Windsor Ontario. Do a search for Sportrack or Sportrack extension. Jack

and this is what we came up with....might just be the trick...

http://www.sportrack.com/a21031

will have to take some height measurements to see if that is truly adaptable or not, but the design of their basket and the Mopar one are similar...hmmm

Checked this one out with a local vendor, apparently Thule bought them out and tripled their prices. Blaghhhh. Looks like a good rack too; I just picked this one up today;

Looks like BVG's rack, and for $69 + 24 Shipped. Hope it turns out good.

Some of SportRack items were bought out by Thule. I have the Coleman Roof Basket I paid $60.00 and I just got the extension from Thule for $63.00

anyone know if there are any discount coupons avaiable for mopar accessories, namely the mopar roof basket ? i'm dying to get one, but i cant justify the $300 or so that they're asking for it. i COULD justify $250 or so, hoping some discout coupon would bring it down to that..

Read my thread start. You can actually get a discounted or free Mopar roof basket.

I also have the powered sunroof, is there any complications or limitations when the sunroof is opened? Seems like the sunroof panel would hit the rack when fully opened.

What panel? The sunroof doesn’t slide overtop the roof does it. Just that little wind flap flips up.

And because of the curve of the roof, I would assume the basket would clear easily.
