Actually, there are a few other GM models that are rebadges Saabs. The Chevy Malibu is the only domestic brand that I can think of right now though, the Opel Vectra shares the platform I believe as well. The platform was developed by Saab for Saab, and GM snagged it and did their GM thing with it  . That's like saying "don't by the KK, it's a rebadged nitro" even though we all kow that the KJ, the Nitro and the KK share the same platform. Who says I got rid of it because it was "showing it's true colors"? I got rid of it when the warranty expired and I wanted a vehicle under warranty. I realize now that I didn't have any problems with it before the warranty expired, so I shouldn't have been expecting much post-warranty.

Nothing wrong with having a good car for long trips and a Jeep for the rest...Good Luck!

That's exactly what I was thinking...it's not like the JK Rubicon makes a good road-tripper...maybe down the buried part of Rt. 66...I guess I'm just not as much a hardcore jeeper as you guys.

I understand where your coming from, I miss my Jetta every once in a while like curvy roads or when one of those primer grey civics pulls up next to me. Or when I spend $60 instead of the $30 for gas to drive the 50 mile round trip Mon.-Fri. So if you want the Saab I say go get the Saab. I personally don't like the interior of them the dash just isn't my mug of beer but they do drive well.

The dash is TOATLLY my mug of beer. It reminds me of a cockpit...very functional and logically laid out (not going by their commercials, I'm a pilot and this is how I feel about it) and everything is in reach when you need it. I'm not much a fan of the 9-5's dash, but the 9-3 is great.

You being a pilot and liking the dash makes perfect sense. THe 30mpg and the turbo engine are both high points too.

Whats up snowgod, it's been a little while since I've been on here enough to post.... wow, what a dilemma... I would love to be in the situation you are in :)

From what you have illustrated, your girlfriend seems really cool, so I would imagine that she would let you drive the JK anytime, and you would basically be getting the saab back as a DD and I would imagine that your girlfriend would let you be the one to drive the Jeep whenever you wanted... I would imagine that it is a win-win situation if what I described would work.

I would love to have a car and my libby as >20mpg stinks when I have to drive to chicago from cleveland and pay $3.80 for gas on the way :(

I dunno, I definently understand the pull toward a sports car, I miss my turbocharged golf everytime I drive my wife's Saabaru (basically a WRX, but it's an auto) the vehicle just feels so low and sporty.

Yeah, my girlfriend and I would probally just end up sharing both cars...it's what my whole family does anyway I'm 600miles away from home at college with my father's KJ right now, he's been splitting between my Rubicon and our Cadillac Deville (which feels like a sports car compared to the Rubi-hell the KJ does too) and my girlfriend has been doing the same (we all live in the same house) thing with the Caddy and the JK. At least she can drive a stick now, so she'll be able to drive the Saab when she wants to. I'm hoping to get this whole thing done next weekend so I have my Saab to drive back up here (it will make the trip (seem) considerably shorter by virtue of it's seemingly endless power and great ride). Oh, and the gas doesn't make that much of a difference to me- I either get 17mpg on regular with the JK, or I get 27-30 on Premium with the Aero...So I pay more at the pump, but less often, as opposed to paying less at the pump but more often...I think- I could be wrong. I'll have to do some math and figure it out.
It's funny, the people here have been saying "why get rid of the jeep for a car" and the people over on the Saab Forum are saying "why did you get rid of your Saab for a Jeep?"...exactly the same mindset, totally different applications of it. Thank god I'm not interested in Japanese vehicles, those forums suck.
Thank's for being so supportive guys...

Edit: What the hax? I typed "r-i-c-e-r-s" (minus hyphens) and it fills it in with "Japanese Vehicles"??? St00ped thing.

Edit about the gas thing: HOLY CRAP! I just did the math and it would cost me about $30 less per 400 miles for gasoline for the Saab, using a $0.20 increase in price over regular gasoline for Premium gasoline. ...I was actually expecting it to be the other way around...I guess those pennies add up a bit more than I thought  . Reason #10869031 to buy my saab back.

i guess my point was, chevys are pieces of junk and that is just as much a chevy as an H3 is. another plastic POS.

but you obviously like it and just wanted to get someone elses stamp of approval on your premade decision to make you feel better.

Snowgod, about the gas prices:

My VW got around 400 miles to the tank and would take 12 gallons max.... my libby gets around 350 miles to the tank and will drink 17 gallons, the golf was much cheaper to drive despite drinking only premium.

I still love my jeep... and often miss my golf.

No, you're right. I should never drive anything but a jeep again. Do some research before you spout about what is actually what like that, it makes you look uninformed. Do you honestly think that Chevy alone does all of the R&D for all of GM? Nevermind the european brands that are owned by GM that people love - Vauxhaull, Saab, Opel...Are you saying that the Saturn Sky is a piece of junk because it's made by GM? Oh yeah, the sky/solstice platform was developed by Opel for the Opel GT, and bootlegged by GM into the domestic brands. That's what happens in these huge corporations. Hell, I hate Chryslers, but I love my Jeep, even though technically it's a chrysler (Jeeps are more of chryslers than Saabs are Chevy's). The Crossfire is a chrysler, but only by name- huge amounts of that car are straight from the Mercedes parts plant, you know, like...the Chassis. People say that the H2 is just an inflated Tahoe, it's not. It shares parts of it's platform with the tahoe (tie rods to name one), but it's hardly a tahoe. There are few things that piss me
off more than disliking something by association...Yes, Saab is owned by GM, so is Cadillac (not a chevy), Pontiac (I think I just hurt my case with this one), Hummer (not a chevy), Saturn (not a chevy usually), Vauxhaul (certainly not a chevy), Holden (not a chevy), Chevrolet (yep, it's a chevy), GMC (mosly chevy but nicer, kinda like pontiac), and Opel (definitley not a chevy) - the fact is that GM owns all these brands, but for the most part, they still do their own R&D - the reason that Pontiac and Chevy are so closeley related is because they've always been like that, GMC came out of Chevy's truck division. Back in the day, Cadillac was GM's test company- it still is alot of the time, but not so much now that GM has aquired other technologically advanced companies like Saab, Vauxhaul, Holden (Pontiac GTO), and Opel.

If you want to hate Saabs, hate them because they're GM's, not because you think that they're chevys. Personally, I hate the new saabs because of what GM has done to them...I mean, with the introduction of the 2.8L V-6, they multiplied the displacement of the 2.0T by almost 1.5 and were only able to increase power by 30-40bhp? Come on...the 2.4T in the 9-5 made 250bhp...GM is sucking their brands dry...With the introduction of the 2006MY saabs, we came upon the GM era of saab, prior to that they were still built as saabs, now they've gone and slapped that little GM square on it...
Sorry if I came across as a bit harsh, I just can't stand things like that...
Truthfully, you're right, I have my mind 90% made up and wanted some approval and input (though I was hoping for some better "don't do it" input than "it's a chevy, why bother")

Sounds about right...I thought about that on the way up here last time but forgot about it due to it being a 7 hour ride being all alone for the first time in months.

Exactly how I feel. Drive a Wrangler for a few days, your KJ will feel like heaven  . At least your home still has a car to drive around in sometimes- we have 3 Jeeps (JK, KJ, and WJ) and an uninsured Cadillac. That's where my problem comes in.

actually, the h3 was made from a chevy colorado, the h2 is a tahoe with a couple thousand pounds of weight added on, the cadillac xlr is a corvette, gmc's were 100% chevys, DUH, vauxhaul's have an even crappier reputation over seas than a chevy does (watch the british TOP GEAR tv show), opels always were GM's yugo, nothing to be proud of there. GTO's selling record speaks highly of holden. and yes most pontiacs were based on a chevy model. they all have relatively cheap switchwear that are sadly misplaced in most cases.

anyways, there are tons of cars that get as good or better mileage than that gm/saab. and are just as cushy. and way better looking. and cheaper. but you like yours, so good for you, at least you should know the maintenence history, thats more important than anything in a used car, carry on.

Not much in this class for cheaper than this I'll tell ya...I got hosed on the sale because of the two accidents, but I know exactly how much the dealer paid for it and I'll offer him cash on the spot at par for his purchase. No way in hell I could get a car like this in it's condition at this price. No way, no how. I'm kinda glad I got in those two accidents with it now 8) .

Also, following your logic of what is made from what, you could say that the Ariel Atom is just a honda Civic with a new frame, that's at the extreme end, but I think it illustrates what I'm trying to say.

Yeah, but you have a KJ on big dubs, so who cares what you say  . Just kidding, I think you did it very tastefully and it actually looks good. I'll have you know that I never got stuck in the snow in my Saab through 3 1/2 NH mountain winters. Put snows on all 4 corners and it was great. Got interesting sometimes, but it wasn't that bad. I knew the limits though, which is why I got the rubicon- I drove 200 miles in a BLINDING snowstorm through about 25" of snow this past february in the Rubi...two cars for two vastly different purposes :) .

Thanks, the rims are off now anyway...they're a tad to big. Even if I could make it though most of the snow, I would be screwed. I work at a financial group in Mass. about 20 minutes from my college and I need to get there without a hitch. I'm sure you know, at college they basically plow your car in, and the roads are a mess, so one time getting stuck in my spot could cost me a lot of money in the long run :).

Where in Mass? You should take that fancy-pants ride of yours out with us some time. I think Pete has something planned for tomorrow actually. When I'm back in NH we should get together and do something. 2 More weeks of hell...I hate it here. SOOO many "Japanese vehicles" and jackalopes on sportbikes who think they're in Formula/Moto GP....not to mention all the other....nevermind, not the place to get into it. Let's just say I hate living here and can't wait to get back to NH.
