Man I would love to do that. I don't have all the necessary items to do it right but a neighbor might have some I could use. Stuff like jacks and stands. Tools I have, but need to pick up a cheapo oil recepticle. I think my neighbor has some gear (he works on his carmen gia (spelling??) all the time) I wish one of you guys who has done this before on their KJ lived in my area...I'd love to learn how to do it for one, and two, the money svings could be worthwhile. I've read the different posts on doing it and it looks reasonable for the mechanically inclined...and I am, but short a few key tools. Anyone in my area work for beer and a steak? ;) Diffs, tranny and case with new fluids WOULD set my mind at ease...time to maybe put a bug in the neighbors ear...he's gone 15 days out of every month though as a pilot. :?

That's perfect! Use his garage when he's away! Tell him you'll "keep an eye on his stuff" and to leave you they keys!

I change the tcase fluid, tranny fluid, and spark plugs every 30k, along with the diffs as needed(depending on amount of offroading). I changed the rear diff fluid at 15k and again when I put the locker in at 18k. Got the front diff at 15k.

Ill do the belts, hoses(engine and heater hoses), antifreeze, and stat at 60k.

Im at 29k right now.

My tcase fluid was fairly brown at 28k when I changed it but the tranny fluid was nice and red. The way I see it, when the fluid is dirty then you waited to long.

On a lifted Liberty you don't have to jack it up, just crawl under it, drain and fill.

I saw them rebuild a trans case about 6 months ago on they're project Cheap Jeep a old CJ. It didn't seem too difficult except for the need of a press. I have also seen them install and highly praise the Atlas Transfer case. As with any project how much do you wanna spend?? :?: Sorry I don't have a better answer but do a lot of research and talk to the many people who have twisted a wrench once or twice or look for a reliable Non-Dealership repair shop. A lot of specialty 4x4 part houses also have a local shop the support and if they aren't good support is yanked real fast. Good Luck. Although it's after the fact look at your owners manual and follow the suggested service specs it can save greif down the road.

Well, they were right about the bearing. As far as the T-case goes.. WHo knows? I don't really know how to tell if it's bad.
