How often should it be done? I usually just do my other cars once a year, but this is the first lifted rig I have driven. I rotate the tires with every oil change but haven't had it aligned yet (been about 8 months now). It drives fine, but that's never a good indicator that something is okay.
Anytime new suspension conponents are replaced(ball joints, springs),when the front tires start showing funny wear,or if the steering feels off(pulling to one side while NOT braking) are good times to have it checked.IFS needs alignments more then a SFA vehicle.GM IFS trucks(suburbans, tahoes, and pickups) are known to not hold a alignment for more then 7500miles,the first alignment is covered under warrenty if brought in before 7500miles.The KJ's IFS is a much better of a design then the torsion bar IFS GM uses and holds a alignment better and longer.

One thing nobody is takling too much about are these "Lifetime Alignments."

BIG RIP OFF. They keep you coming back and the ALWAYS find something else not covered under their deal to repair for nmore money. Yopu wind up paying more in the long run.

Troy is correct in that anytime you change anything on your suspension you should have the alignment checked. IF you purchased or are about to purchase the KJ used, have it checked and get the 4 wheel alignment checked. tells you a bunch of info that might not be disclosed.

50.00 to 75.00 depending on where you are is the most you should have to pay for an alignment check and adjustment. Parts always additional.

WAIT! wtf?? Firestone told me they wont even TOUCH my Jeep after I get it lifted??? Actually, finding a place to do my alignments "after" I get it lifted is a major concern of mine..anyone know which, if any, chains will do my alignment?

Ask your friends and family for a referal to a good local shop. these guys can be your best bet.

That is nuts on the Firestone thing. My local Firestone guys are all jeepers and LOVE my KJ. They compressed my HD OME springs for only 20.00 bucks. then offeres a 49.00 alignment.

Find a better SMALL LOCAL shop.

I got the life time alignment from Firestone,I'm lifted and they never have said anything about it.They also stated the lifetime alignment even covers lifting it and it doesn't matter what suspension I had under they would align it,even when I do my SFA swap, they do not know about my SFA swap and since I don't get a alignment very often and don't use the same store how the hell would they know? Granted they would know that the SFA wasn't stock but that is not relivent to the warranty as the paper work states.

Don't tell them you lifted it,like they would no the difference on a KJ anyways.

Not true,I have never had to pay extra for the 2 free alignments under my lifetime warranty. Then again I tell them strait up to only do the alignment, nothing else will be talked about or agreed to and I don't care nothing is that messed up on my KJ for it not to be aligned because I ussually just got done fixing something broken and now need a alignment.

At the time the regular on time alignment was $70,the lifetime was $120.Now the one time alignments are $80 and the lifetimes are $140.So I lucked out and have saved a bunch of money.

Not that I like Firestone but other places here are more expensive and/or there alignment racks are outdated that the KJ isn't even in there computer.

after I installed my JBA upper at arms i paid $65 to have it aligned. normally it would be $50, but they said since it was lifted it would be more. I assumed it was the same work, lifted or not, but they spent a total of 3 hours working on it, so I wasn't going to complain. it was worth the time though, the tires are much quieter in turns not, not sure if that is due to the new a arms or alignment.

Anybody that's afraid to work on a lifted Jeep is somebody I don't want working on one in the first place.

I can understand paying more for a freshly lifted vehicle's alignment, though, because generally EVERYTHING will be out of whack, but then again you run that chance with everything.

Also, could be because of some parts (like LCA's on WJs and TJs) having caster adjustments on them the tech isn't familiar with.

That's were I got mine and it comes with a 6,000 mile warranty or 6 months which ever comes first. I've already used it twice. Both after I was lifted. To me it seems they have a bit more trouble alignment a vehicle after it's been lifted, maybe it was that shop tech doing the work. Before I was lifted I was in and out within 45 minutes both times I’ve gone in after the Liberty was lifted it’s taken them 1-1.5 hours.
