4.10 gearing........is it worth it ...pros and cons?

Sounds like a $ 2000 dollar job. Will have to leave that one for next year. I have to get my car restoration finished and
the airplane done first.

ARB's on an airplane! Front and back? :lol:

I wish it were only that cheap . Aircraft parts are in a league of their own .

What are you working on? I've got my license and a little over 100 hours in Sundowners and 180's. Haven't flown since 2000, It became a choice between the cost of flying and being able to retire someday :shock:

Total cost for ARB's, Compressor, 4:10's, upgraded axles in the rear and the labor was right around $3000 (or about 25 flight hours :wink:

). I have some pictures of the pile of parts, I'll upload them when I get a chance.

I have about 1500 hours in Bell 206/407 series helicopters but I haven't flown since Monday ... I guess it's a good thing I'm not paying the bills. :wink:

Huh, I had expected to pay at least as much as that just for the parts ... I may have to shuffle my priority list.

I have found for installation any where from 175 per axle carried in (off the vehicle) to 350. I am currently doing some price checking for the 4.10s for the rear, have a front diff coming with 4.10 installed already just need a TT and it installed !!!! :lol:

If anyone has a place with great prices we could use them! :wink:

Well let me revise that:
ARB's about $750 per axle (one was $699 the other $724),
ARB high flow compressor $250. the lower end one is about $150
I shopped to find the lowest price i could find, actually bought the three items at different times from 3 separate vendors.
4:10's about $500 with rebuild kits - http://www.ReiderRacing.com
Upgraded axles from Yukon - $150 Not a necessity
Labor $800

Total: $3200.00

So the 4.10s front and rear (both) were about 500 for everything? Since I only need the rears I maybe doing this before I thought I would, now to find the best price on a front TT

Somehow, in my budget, I had planned for $2,500 for the ARBs. Guess I was a little off. :roll:

I have a Taylorcraft on floats that I put in the experimental category . It took about eight years
for me to complete in my spare time. I built the floats as well from a kit. I have about 250 hrs
on the plane to date and a pile of unfinished maintenance backed up . Too many toys and not
enough time is my problem.

Lakes and fish are no problem here, I don't need a plane for that. I live on one of the best Salmon rivers in the world
where it's not uncommon to hook a 45 LB Salmon. I can catch lake trout at my cottage 40 minutes drive away which range
from one to five pounds . The "pond" that I fly out of has 90 miles of shoreline and there must be 25,000 other places from which to fly . Now if I only had plenty of time I could catch some

I had the 4.10 installed.........ouch on the labour and I don't immediatly notice
any difference. I hope it at least pans out at the pump. At 1.40 / litre it had better :shock:
