I think the offroad package comes with electronic locker also. I looked at these when they first came out and if they were coil spring over axle I might of been more tempted. Those leaf springs really are going to kill the flex.

Anyway, anyone who wheels it is cool with me in my book.

Here are some h3 wheeling pics if anyone is instrested. Personally the H3 reminds me of the KJ. Everyone rips on it, but both are pretty darn capable.

I dunno why everyone hates leaf springs so much, its all in the total design of the suspension. My old landcruiser (82) got stuck in a puddle once, 3 wheels on dry land and water up to one of the windows..... I don't think that our kj's could come close to that flex, even with out coil springs.

If I owned a company that needed a large capable vehicle fleet, but not large enough to own its own garage for working on vehicles, it would sure be a lot easier to buy H3's then to have a month down time for each Jeep Liberty getting it up to that level of capeability.

Also, if I didn't want to deal with the hassle of modding my own vehicle, but needed a cabable vehicle (my dad would fit this description), then the H3 would also make a good choice.

I, however, would rather spend that extra money and modify my jeep myself. I have had fun modifying my jeep, watching it get better along the way.

I like the offroad picture and comparison though. I do think that both vehicles have great potential.

I'll have to see if the Land Rover/Hummer offroad driving school up in VT has any H3s yet. I took a lesson ther once in a Defender before they had hummers, lots of fun! I've also gone mountain biking on their trails for years, right down the road from my parents. I'd be scared to take my KJ on a few of those trails.... they are serious!

Your KJ can make it on any trail that a Defender can go on. Here is my little rant for the day...I despise Land Rovers and Range Rovers with a passion. It's really stupid I know, but all a Land Rover was originally was an old AMERICAN WWII Jeep with some bolt on accessories. Some British dudes took an AMERICAN Jeep and bolted on some flares and other things and called it their own. So the next time you think about buying a Land Rover, just remember that they hacked their company from the AMERICAN Jeep... :D Sorry for the rant, I had to say it.

i gotta give props to land rover since I own and wheel a discovery :P

this man speaks the truth, but what you need to consider is what they turned it into, they made it into a farm workhorse which then develop into some great 4x4 vechiles.. keep in mind when land rover was land rover they made some mean wheelin machines, some of which were 4x4 of the year. Sadley, Ford has taken over Land Rover and turned them into a high roller image type of vechile. The offroad prowellness is dieing slowly, hopefully jeep/chrysler dosen't go down that road... remember they are still bristish (well now american) so they are still on our good side lol.

anyway, it's not what you drive as long as you wheel it that's important.

kj wins with more flex:

"kj wins with more flex: '

come on guys....we're talking about a stock h3 vs. a modded KJ...

don't get me wrong, I really like the KJ but :

1) the KJ has plastic bumpers vs. the H3 metal ones...with shackles no less !

2) The KJ gets a trac-loc vs. the H3 Electric -Locker

3) The KJ has better visability and fits where the H3 won't

There are tons of examples for both rigs.....good and bad...just as long as you offroad your 4x4 I think your ahead of the game. It's to bad there is all this seperatism between 4x4's...

Yeah and the KJ has better engine choices, better tranny behind the CRD, better T-case, better front suspension, better rear suspension, more visibility, better fit into tight spaces, more turning radius, etc. I'm still not seeing where the H3 is so great. Anyone??

The H3 is what...$3k more? For $3k you can build a KJ that no Hummer could follow on the trail.

I don't think anyone is trying to say which is better. It is personal preference and in reality the driver makes biggest difference. I think the point is both are darn capabe in their own right, eventhough alot of people just brush both off as poser/grocery getters. As long as you wheel it is all that matters.

Yeah I will say that it's nice to see more "off-road oriented" vehicles coming out these days. The Rubicon, Hummers, Power Wagon, FX4 Level II, etc... For a long time manufacturers ignored us off-road guys. But now we are slowly starting to see more and more true off-road packages on new vehicles. Maybe it'll leak over into the KJ line in a year or two...

There is a difference though if you think about it. The H3 (and H2 for that matter) is based on a pickup frame and is morphed into something else instead of being designed and built with a purpose, strictly with the desire to sell an image. GM should've done it correctly and started with a blank piece of paper imho. A base Colorado pu can't be transformed it into a H2.

The Rubicon on the other hand is not a morphed Wrangler... they start out the same, only difference being the choice of engines, axles, etc. A base Wrangler can be transformed it into a Rubicon.

Good call there...hopefully a true off-roaders package will come out for the KJ...nothing like the "off-road group" that is offered with the KJs now...darn those sheet metal skids... :x ...

solid front axle "moab" edition KJ!

I would of bought one. I wanted a 4 door suv type and the grand WJ was out of my price range and didn't like the unlimited because no extra doors. few and far between people like me though. rather more mall people.

most hummers, like land rovers now a days are an image and nothing more. So taking little time invested and pumping out a h3, h2 equals more revenue to gm and the 1% of people that complain, such as us, are nothing. move on folks.

At least they put "snatch" points on it. Guess they thought someone would really be going off road. Doesn't say much for our KJ's when we have to "buy" a method to get us out of trouble. Sad. :(

I agree. I had a chevy S-10 crew cab before my libertry. It was nice cause it had 4 doors and good amounts of space. When my S-10 died the only thing out I could afford and was interested in was the KJ. I was thinking about a wrangler at one point but I am glad I got the lib. Has all the same passenger space as my chevy, better mpg, and a much nicer veh in general. Sure if I could buy an H1 I would but the KJ is a solid off road with all around driveability. H3 might be cool off road but if you are using it for daily driving also it might not be so great. A great veh for most people has to balence as many aspects as possible, unless you can buy a 4x4 for that purpose alone. Anyway, just my opinion.

Sam

oh and i just bought my lift the other day!
