I really doubt it’s going to hurt the SFA fund too much. However, you might shoot yourself next week when you find an excellent deal on a SFA part but unfortunately you spent the money on a winch instead.

Hit the nail on the head. Don't want to miss a crazy deal because of the winch.

True, but one of the reasons I haven't bought one and until very recently didn't even really consider buying on was because 90% of the guys I know with them have used them like 1-3 times in the years they have had them. :?

I agree w/ that.

and what Ted said.

How many more times do you expect to wheel in the snow? How often do you wheel alone? (should be never) How many other rigs have winches in the groups you wheel w/?

Out of hundreds of trips to crazy trails and gnarly obstacles, I have only seen winches used twice and once we could have gotten by w/ straps since it was only to pull someone. I have had a winch for a long time and never used it and only recently installed it on my Jeep because it was sitting around collecting dust and figured why not. (Jeep bling!)

Like mentioned, you will kick yourself for buying the winch now when you come across a good deal on something sfa related soon after buying it.

There have been many times I have been stuck in deep mud or high centered where the TJ's and YJ's and even some JK's I was with could not pull my KJ's 5K+ lb butt out. I had to winch myself out or homestead. Even though I would go out with many other Jeeps (with roofs and doors off), being the heaviest by far meant they could do little to help me quite often.

I vote for self-rescue capability!
