Um yeah, if you don't strap things down, things will bounce out of it even if it's a foot tall.

Tall = hits garage door header

Tall = higher to reach over to load

Tall = noisy

But, it ain't my jeep so have at it 8)

Right on all accounts. :wink: give me something nice and low, can get into parking garages even! :wink: Put a 6 or 7 inch rack on top of the stock rails with Mopar cross bars add in a lift and you are not getting in many places. Even with my RL rack I have only about two inches to play with at the main offices parking garage. With my old setup I had about 1 1/4 inches, didn't want to bounce too much! :lol: :lol: :lol:

I kno this might sound like a dumb question then but how high are parking garages usually? lol Like how high is your office parking garage?

Parking garages vary but the one I have to park in near the main office is 81 inches . Thank goodness usually I take my "state supplied " Taurus, but when I take mine I have to duck! :lol: :lol:
I guess I do have 3 inches to spare ( after I measured closer with the RL rack) but ....another reason I had to mount the lights down so far :lol: :lol: :lol:

Thats why I used the little Hella FF50's on my rack, to keep the profile down.

Yes, I meant wind noise. If you have wind noise, you have drag, and ultimately, worse fuel economy.

Ideally you have as few bodies taking the brunt of the wind, as close packed as possible, and smooth surfaces. Some of those racks have lots of holes and square looking pieces welded facing the wind...I can't imagine they are very drag efficient.

The drag from a rack is probably not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things that are trying to slow down your Jeep, but I don't see many advantages to making it overly tall. The only one I can think of is if whatever you're putting up there has a very large radius along the bottom, like a cooler with a rounded bottom corner. You would probably want your rack to contact its flat side, not the middle of a big radius. I would think two to three inches be plenty in most cases. I had my rack set at 3-1/2" high sides, but I'm going to have to change it to 3". Due to shipping calculators, that extra half inch costs about $130 additional in shipping. I won't make that mistake again.
