Well I went ahead with the Detour Backbone after talking to Mark. Great talking with him and it's good to find a good American business owner. I found out from him that I would be able to make a tow bar work with the backbone system. After thinking about the other facts and the ability to tow the KJ behind dads RV that pushed me over the edge. Going to be watching for the used skids!! Thanks for all the help guys!!

NOTHING is more important than protecting that transmission and transfer case! I've wheeled MOAB, the hammers, the Rubicon, Fordyce Creek, The Dusy Ersham and many other places. All it takes is one missed tire placement and smack you're trany's done. Get the high end transmission and transfer case skids. Then go for the factory front end and gas (fuel for us CRD's) tank skid.

I can tell you that Detours will be around for a long time. He builds FSJ stuff, too. They build the backbone to order but, it will be available. Great guy to deal with. Skids are more important, get them first.

Yeah, I agree with the skids. I have about 15 years wheeling experience, from many different environments, from mud, sand, rock, etc. I went with the Detours backbone first because of the discount offered and the fact that I have a nice Warn 9500ti sitting the garage starring at me every day. (I removed the winch from my Rubicon before selling it)

The only offroading around here is sand. I've offroaded several stock vehicles locally without skids including my 4x4 Trailblazer patrol unit. BUT don't worry guys, before my next trip to Tellico the KJ will have skids, rockrails, and a lift and tires!! As the budget moves toward allowing more offroading trips, I'll be able to add the other items.

good move for the backbone given your situation.. now just watch the for sale section every day to find some cheap skids.. i've found that buying used things is key.. and really helps out with saving for other jeep parts.
