For the longest time, all my wife and I had was our YJ.. Talk about packing stuff in... LOL The back seat of a YJ isn't big at all.. But we got really good at packing stuff around the kid.. Needless to say, we became experts on packing a YJ out of neccecity.. We then got a hold of a 96 Saturn which served us well until it was getting to the point of being scary to drive.. Now we have our KJ and love it.. The back seat will have plenty enough room for 2 car seats and still have room for other things... If there is a will there is a way...

if you are still having trouble getting it to work you could buy a Thule enclosed luggage box and put a kid up there. Be a lot cheaper then getting a new car (assuming you are making a payment on that '05) and you wouldn't take a hit on depreciation. But then again you probably shouldn't take parenting advice from a 19 year old...

We always had a Suburban in my family (3 of em actually). My dad's is a 4x4 '02 with the 5.3 V8-3 row seating gets about the same gas mileage as my KJ (17-19 mpg on the highway). The suburban is great if you kids get into sports and it's your turn to drive or on long trips (we have had 9 people in ours from St. Paul, Minnesota to Jackson Hole, Wyoming which is about 1500 miles or so with a full load of gear, two Thule Luggage boxes, and a 5000 pound trailer in all wheel drive and it got 15 through 6 inches of snow).

Suburban's are great and all, but i would rather have my kj. Ill never be hauling 9 people b/c i couldnt stand that many people for over 5 in anyways, and they do get worse than my libby. I can get 22 on the highway, and around 16 in the city. I would say a Suburban gets around 13-14 in the city and 17-18 on the highway, Remeber, my tires are stock. Those things cant crawl over anything b/c there so heavy and long, and they have the turning radius of a school bus.

I had no idea that the 4Runner was the same size (interior) as the Liberty (minus cargo). That was very interesting.

I love my Renny but I really think that 2 car seats will make things way too cramped. I don't like to be cramped. I previously only bought GM vehicles since my aunt and uncle both worked for GM but after 3 water pumps & 2 intake manifold gaskets on my last 3 cars my loyalty ended. I take very good care of my vehicles and there is no way I should've had the problems w/ the GM's like I did.

When we do hit up the dealership I will take 2 car seats. I will only be going to the dealership when I've sold the Renny. Went this past weekend and they offered me $17,500 on trade in. WHATEVER.

I have two kids, 4 months and 2.5 years in my KJ with a 60lb dog and gear....not a problem but you must become a master at packing. Car seats don't have to be in the middle it is just a little safer. How did our parents or grandparents ever survive when they didn't even have "car seats"?

Another solution is a small trailer like 4x6 to tow gear in or one of those roof baskets.

Think long and hard before knocking Toyota quality. Personally I think they build the highest quality vehicles anywhere. I had a Toyota mini 4x4 with a ton of miles, never had a problem...ever. Now I have a FJ40 and she is much stronger than any Wrangler that came or comes out of DC. Sometimes you just get one that has problems (see my '04 KJ with t-case, both diff. rebuilt, pinion seal twice w/less than 35k),

Renny run up to Smith-Stokes up in Reidsville and talk to Robert Ladd. Tell them what you are looking to do and he can help you. They sell Dodge, chrysler. JEEP, Gmc, and some others. But they will treat you right. I did all my stuff on the phone with them and only spent about 1 to 2 hours in the dealership total. But I would keep the KJ. I have 2 kids one 2 and one 6. we have plenty of room. We drive the Kj more than my wifes Envoy.
