Well, the Dallas Fort Worth area got the most sow in history in one day today. Nine whole inches! I know, you guys from up north don't laugh too hard. Texans freak out with one inch of that white stuff. But... My 2WD KJ handled it awesome today. Everyone else was slipping all over the place and I was tracking straight no problem. Impressed!

Then, this evening, I was running over to Sonic to pick up some burgers for dinner. Snow still falling. Roads slick. I was on a narrow 2 lane road, and the rear of my KJ starts walking sideways toward the ditch. Then my passenger rear tire bumped the 12" of snow on the side of the road. Somehow, that started my rear pulling more and more into the ditch. Next thing I know, I am sitting in the ditch with my rear tires stuck in the snowy, slushy, mud. Not Impressed...

So I call my best friend, who comes to pull me out in his 2WD Chevy truck. I pull out my tow strap and hook it up to his truck, then another guy in a lifted Z71 with Swampers pulls up and offers to give me a tug. So I hook up to him instead, and he pulls me out. But not before pulling me over a concrete and steel man hole in the ditch - sideways. Pulled my muffler off. Oh well no biggie. Drive shaft is OK.

So I am parked on the road, unhooking my towstrap from both cars. Standing in the ditch rolling it up and my best friend pulls up behind me after looping around to make sure I am all good. He is not traveling much over an idle. Hits the brakes in what looked to be plenty of time. But ends up sliding right into the back of me. His grill and hood encountered my spare tire. Busted his grill and wrinkled his hood. Just put a small dent into my tailgate where the spare mount bolts on. Should be pretty easy to pop out with a simple slide hammer. So, Impressed again.

OK. Now go ahead and laugh at the stupid Texan not knowing how to drive in the snow...

:banghead: :JEEPIN: :banghead:

LTT that's just sad man...I feel for ya but one of two things I got more snow then you did where I live it went like this 5 inches of Ice completely destroyed almost every powerline within 40 mile radius, then on top of that 6 to 7 inches of snow..My Jeep Liberty 2WD with Firestone Destination A/T's absolutely had no problem with that being said I do know how to drive in the ice/snow because we usually get enough year round to really matter. However with you being a Central Texan you guys don't usually get it that bad. So I do feel for ya but I think you need to practice your snow driving... BTW if you ever come up here and it's icy enough I'll take you Snow Drifting it's hilarious in a 2wd.. :)

LOL. It was not only me. I went down the same road yesterday, once the snow and ice had cleared. Yes, It warmed up and melted all that snow off the roads in 1 day. But when i drove down that road, there were 4 cars in the ditch within 50 yards of where I slid off. Same place, same side of the road. I counted 10 more cars scattered within about a quarter mile. I also noticed how much grade was on this road. Now that I was paying attention to it, this road had a pretty steep grade from the center of the road to the ditch to shed water. Add packed snow, or ice, and that explains why my tail went sliding sideways and got me into this situation. Oh well. Lessons learned.

Turned out to be the largest snow of all time in DFW. 12.7" in 24 hrs. And Texans can't drive in snow.

People in CO can't drive in it either :juggle:

x2

I lived in Colorado Springs for 3 years - 2 of those years I drove my Camaro - to/from Woodland Park 18 miles up/down a mountain pass - I never missed a day - I never had any problems.

Colorado has more 4x4's, more snow tires, more chains - but no more driver skill.

Hopefully your tailgate isn't that messed up, when mine got hit (by that dumb telephone pole just minding its own business) my bracket was ok, but the actual tailgate gave in. The support in the door under the sheet metal got bent and was dificult to fix, the guy wasn't able to fully straighten it, but then again I paid him 50 bucks in an Autozone parking lot.. Spur of the moment type thing. I don't know how smart it was, but good enough for me I guess. Anyway, here are some pics, one of the tailgate dented and the other one of how many times he had to use the slide hammer to correct it. Apparently they're built pretty sturdy.
