Twice?

'03 4x4 Freedom, automatic. If I park on even a little hill, I have to leave room so it won't roll into another car. Doesn't really seem to make a difference if I pull the e-brake then put it in park or do it the other way. It's just a roller.

Yes twice. It was my moms car, i believe it was an '85 and it happened when we first moved in. Then it happened a month later. Heck, both my old F150 and my buddy's F150 (mine was an '89 his was an '85, both stick, 300-6, 4x4) would be parked in gear (granny low) and they would still roll down the driveway. That was the middle of summer!!! It would happen so slow you could barely notice it. You would come outside and have a weird feeling of "didn't I park closer to the house?". We actually used chalk once to mark where they started out. Both trucks made it 5 feet in 12 hours. Thats 0.011 miles per hour!!!! Yeah Stillwater is REALLY exciting...

I was driving my '03 around with the brake on too. After a second complaint to the dealership service department, they replaced the lever. See my earlier post in this thread.

Mine initially worked fine. Then one day it felt like the cable snapped. After that, it was "sometimes it works, sometimes you just pull the handle all the way up and nothing."

Over the next 10k or so I had brakes done and they adjusted the parking brake twice. no difference.

I brought it do dealer and they found that the handle mechanism inside the KJ was bad. Replaced under warranty. :-D

So, it's the ratchet that's bad. And my aftermarket, B2B warranty covered it. hehehe

I've already had ours back to the dealer once to adjust the parking brake. It now feels like its out of adjustment again.

Question:

I thought the e-brake system has a wratcheting, self-adjustment mechanism with no manual adjustment capability. Is there actually some manual adjustment capability (like an inline pre-tensioning bolt) or is everyone who brought their Liberty in to get their e-brake adjusted being sold a load of horse$h*t?

I take it you have to take the caliper off and the rotor to adjust it. There is a way to do it under the libby without taking that off, ive never tried it though.

I was always taught to set the e-brake first, make sure it holds then put it in park (auto - to save the tranny and prevent that KLUNK when u shift it back to drive). When I park on my hill and set the e-brake and take my foot off, it always tries to roll. I gotta pull up harder, almost to the console pad before it holds firm. Then I put it in park.
