Don’t let mileage detour you and don’t let the newer 2000/2001 detour you. These Jeeps are very popular here in New Mexico for two reasons. (1) They are very dependable 4X4 vehicles (2) They can last for literally over 400,000 miles. 625,000 miles has been recorded on a factory Cherokee 4.0L engine. These engines are CHEAP to rebuild and CHEAP to buy remanufactured. I love my Cherokee so much, I’m buying another one. Cherokees are cheap, parts are cheap, and the styling is sexy.

So how much would a reman 4.0L be and what is a reasonable price to rebuild a 4.0L?
I wish my grandmother would let go of her XJ. I believe it is a '99. Mileage is close to 180k. My aunt is parking her '97 TJ with roughly 300k on the engine and original 5spd tranny. They like their Jeeps too much. :-) :-)

Things are starting to look like I could keep the KJ, pay it off and buy another Jeep.
O.o

Maybe it's just me, but my Pa always told me not to buy a truck (or car) with all the aftermarket performance stuff on it. The odds of it having the dog crap beat out of it is high. Rather find a stocker and do your own mods. The one time I didn't follow that advice I had a trainwreck problem vehicle.

My :2cents:

Take the insurance money fix it yourself, sell it, replace it with a CRD. :SOMBRERO:

Besides isn't Blackwidow a state of being not just a model/color of Jeep?

Yeah good thinking there. My motto was always never buy an already built Jeep. Guess I got ahead of myself. Lol!!!
Next week I should know what the insurance company is going to do to the Jeep.

I totaled my CRD Dec 21. I rolled it 4x. Insurance company gave me about $2000 more than I needed to replace it with another CRD. This one is a blue sport with a sunroof and premium factory sound system :SOMBRERO: I'm sure they will make it up in "adjusted premiums". :banghead:

Anyway, some of the fum of having a jeep is wrenching on it. You still have your tools don't you? :goink:

Wow!!! Rolled 4 times??? Geez...
I have been wrenching on my KJ and will on the next Jeep I get. If I can find a decent XJ then I will get it. Even if it is lifted and modded, if it was taken care of it would be a good start to get back on the trails. :-) :-)

Would you care to share how long it took for the insurance company to get a check to you?
Since it wasn't my fault, the guy who rear ended me ...his insurance is paying for it. I was hit March 16th. Between that time the insurance company contacted us, adjuster called to set up an appointment to look at the Jeep, adjuster got the estimate on the Jeep and other things...I'd say everything is moving pretty quickly. I should know after Monday what they're going to do with the Jeep.

About 2 weeks including the snail mail time. :ALONE:

Tbh, I REALLY want to keep my KJ. I put a lot of work into it and would hate to see it go. The Liberty has grown on me too much! I would literally cry if it went away.

If all it needs is a tailgate, I can get one at a junk yard and put it on myself. Is it considered fraud if the insurance company gives you a check to get a vehicle repaired, but only fix certain things yourself?

Cause I can get a tailgate and put it on myself. Cheaper than what a body shop would charge to pound it out and stuff.

Based on what you have said, there’s a whole lot more wrong with it than just a tailgate, hence your concern that it might be totaled.

I've had an absurd number of vehicles and it is the only one to ever leave me stranded on the side of the road, which I am still very bitter for. I was on a road trip in Jan/Feb between FL, MI, IA and back and was forced to go to the dealership in the middle of Indiana. Its lost a lot of resell value which only got worse after the accident. It gets doo doo gas mileage and is a gutless turd. Replacement parts are expensive. I could go on for days to be honest... I'm never owning a Chrysler product again. I've never disliked a vehicle so much. The fact that I'm stuck with it for a while doesn't help.

I can't argue that. The 3.7 is a good engine, but it's gutless for our heavy Jeeps. Either way, you should have done your research before buying the KK if gas mileage and power were important to you.

Don't let one bad experience prevent you from buying a new Jeep again.

DirtyKK wrote:

If you hate it that much, I would trade it in for something you love, otherwise, you will hate owning it, driving it, etc. And the longer you have it, the quicker it will become devalued. Personally, I would take a hit on it and buy something you want. You might lose some money, but money can’t buy you happiness.
