This is sad and depressing. I only hope the what ever new wrangler comes out after '15 is even better than or equal to the JK in offroad prowess.
Darn Italian company having no idea about the American Ideal (large capable go anywhere vehicle= Freedom). I will miss the Liberty. I just can't comprehend what would compel FIAT/Jeep to make yet another crossover, when they already have 2.5.
WK2 is a half IMO.
I would be interested in seeing some sort of Wrangler Hybrid type vehicle. Imagine charging the battery while going down long mountain pass in Colorado, and the extra torque of an electric motor.

It’s not a bad decision by Jeep, it’s a decision that has to be made. Gasoline and diesel prices are high and are projected to stay high, the economy is in the toilet, the EPA and government regulations are demanding more fuel efficient vehicles, and lastly, a large parentage of consumers are having to crunch numbers. Fuel efficiency is one area of the pocketbook that people are now having to look at. There’s only a small percentage of Jeep customers who really off-road their vehicle. In stock form, the new Liberty replacement will be trail-rated and will be sufficient for 90% of the potential buyers.

You also have to consider that the new Grand Wagoneer will be more SUV-like. Jeep doesn’t want to compete against itself, that’s why they want to market the Wrangler as their “primary” off-road vehicle. I personally like the look of the Patriot and would most certainly considering owning one if it had a diesel engine and achieved 35 miles per gallon. So I do think there is room for negotiation between fuel efficiency and keeping the Jeep DNA strong.

Re the electric powertrain, I would like to have a Liberty vehicle with four independent driving wheels. Each wheel with its own electric drive and deep wheel wells for high traction tires.
Yes, the down hill runs could charge the batteries as you braked on down the trail.

But the black ops oil companies are keeping this option under their multi national collective thumbs.

Wake up Americans!

:furious:
