That does sound wierd. I will have to try power breaking mine and see what happens.

nothing ,it will just sit there
rear disk are stronger than rear drum and will lock up the rear tires so all you will get is maybe 1500-1800 RPM

Thanks for the replies, all. I should note that I did not have the brakes on when this happened. As I gave it gas, I completely let off the brakes. I had the go-pedal floored with no brakes on, but the system would not let the engine rev high enough to actually start the wheels turning.

The TSB I posted the link to describes exactly the problem I have, so I'm sure that it was released to address this particular complaint. I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow to set up an appointment to have it taken care of. I'll post back here with the results. Meantime, if anyone's had the TSB done, I'd love to hear from you.

I have had the TSB done for this. My parents have a 25 degree grade at the end of their driveway. On top of that, there is a 5-6 inch ledge to get onto the road. I used to have to get a running start, but the flash seemed to have improved it. Now, I can get one tire to spin while backing out without a running start. Although last week, with trailer in tow, I decided to turn around in the lawn rather that back the trailer up the incline. I backed the trailer off the left side of the driveway and then pulled foward to try to keep the Lib on the pavement (lawn was mostly mud and trailer didn't have a lot of weight). I eventually worked my front wheels off the right side of the driveway (about a 4-5 inch drop). I couldn't get back on the driveway in reverse and I couldn't get the tire(s) to spin either. Seemed like it wouldn't let me rev up enough. I put it in 4 HI but can't remember if I was able to get backed up onto the driveway because at some point I just said "screw this" and just drove through part of the yard.

Will the dealer perform this TSB Flash on a non-'05? I noticed the exact same problem with my jeep this weekend...

The Jeep spent the day in the shop today to have TSB 21-005-07 (or is it 21-015-07?) performed. They did flash the PCM, but I don't yet know if it has solved the problem. I won't have a chance to test it until this weekend. So... maybe? I'll post back after I know for sure. However, I did gun it and spin tire out of the dealership for about 10'.

Of course, I had to disable the ESP to allow me to spin tire. When I spoke to the tech about the work they performed, he said that the program the TSB says to download was not the correct one for my Jeep because my Jeep has ESP. For KJs with ESP there is a different flash. He said in my case the problem is that the ESP is being over-aggressive and cuts the throttle when you try to reverse up a steep hill. The ESP 'thinks' the tires must be slipping because the RPMs are getting kind of high but you're not moving, so it cuts the power. He said if I would have disabled the ESP when I was stuck, I'd have been able to back up. I guess this is consistent with what I mentioned in my post on Saturday about how once I put it into 4Lo I was fine. ESP is automatically disabled in 4Lo.

While in the shop, I also had them cure an awful rattle coming from my rear seat latch that's been there since it was one month old. When I picked it up, they had washed it, too. That was nice of them. They didn't do that when it was in for state inspection a month ago.

Today I had a chance to test out the Jeep's performance post-flash. I'm happy to be able to report back that I can now smoke the rear tire in 2wd whilst climbing my in-laws driveway in reverse. This is one of the hills that I could not climb in reverse before having the TSB performed. It's like a new Jeep!

I have a 2002 CRD and have tested it to the limit off road with no problems at all - however occasionaly it struggles to revearse up my drive which is on a slight slope also happens in 1st but doesn't quite struggle so much. Once it gets moving it's fine. Have resorted to letting the rpm build before lifting clutch but this way when your going your going - not much control. For me I think the turbo comes in a little late would like it to come in just above tick over.
