Should Jeep be synonymous with luxury or urban?? I just think the brand needs to be very careful of where they are headed. Chevy and Ford are confused look alike brands. It's hard to tell which is which but you always know a Jeep from a ways away.

I don't have any problem telling a ford from a chevy. We were just decusing bad mpg in american suv's and now someone sugest a v8 in a kj and you wonder why the american companies have a hard time reading the public. How can ford, gm and DC figure out what we want, when we don't even know. I guess we want 400 hp and 40 mpg at the same time ha ha. I just read an article in truck trend on the 4.0 powered nitro, it makes good power, however, the torque comes in high in the powerband, not so great for offroading. The 3.7 will still be the better choice for the offroad crowd. TT did say that the v6 diesel in the GC will find it's way into the new liberty, now thats good news for the offroaders

You are going to have some buyers that will go for the smaller more efficient engines, and others that will go for the biggest best they can get. Automakers need to just lay all the options out on the table. This is why I dont mind some platform sharing and drivetrain sharing...if its done correctly you could end up having engine options that otherwise wouldnt be available. And they should not restrict the good engines to the most expensive trim. Just like they did with our CRD's you could get the engine even in the sport trim.

Here in the states we like to have lots of options, but we also have little self control, you throw all those options out in front of us and before we know it we will have tacked on so many things to that base model that it may as well be the high end trim. Draw us in with the base model pricing and send us out with a high dollar bill.

DCX is cancelling Commander cause they made a serious error and it's paid for itself anyway. Since Commander is mechanically a Grand Cherokee with different sheet metal, it cost (in relative automotive terms) very little to develop. Plus, the same platform is under the new Mercedes SUV trio (R class, GL and M class) though Daimler doesn't want you to know that - so they have paid for the engineering many times over.

Jeep won't be allowed to go any farther upmarket for fear of cutting into Mercedes sales, so they are trapped. GC is the best selling SUV in many markets so they can't dump the name, but GC doesn't have 3 rows of seats that soccer moms demand.

So, what to do? My guess: Jeep dumps Commander and introduces a GC variant with 3 rows of seats. It will share styling with current GC but probably wind up looking like a GC front clip grafted onto a minivan... or worse yet, they will badge engineer the Durango/Aspen disaster into the next GC and be shot down in flames yet again.

I like the commander more and more. Infact husband was in looking at one today. V63.0 diesel very nice smooth delivery of power with third row seat down the room in the rear is not to bad.

Let's try not to bash the XK  , it's a Jeep & It's a heck of a lot nicer that the hummer or tahoe imo! Granted, some people don't like it, but it has it's own appeal. I wouldn't trade it for nothing. My wife has one, I would love to put a lift under it, but it's the wifes! It will go anywhere my stock (for now) JK can go and since it has a little more clearance than my KJ, we wheel it a bunch.

I was recently on a commander forum looking at the pictures and reading some information and I was VERY surprised that not many wheel their Commanders, and the ones that do weren't doing ANYTHING even remotely technical or even challenging that just about any stock Jeep could handle (not excluding the compass!). Maybe I wasn't looking at the right website... :? I was just very surprised that there weren't many offroader XK owners out there. It seems that it could have a major potential with the right equipment (lift, tires, lockers...) although it is longer and the not as nimble as the KJ or TJ.

I agree with others...I'm not opposing the commander at all. I infact like them alot. I would definitly consider one as my next Jeep if it were availiable in a CRD version. This is also why I'm anxious for the release of the KK and hoping that it will come out in a CRD because when it is is released I will be looking for something in addition to my KJ about a year after.

the 3.0 V6 diesel engine is brillant and sounds awesome you get a real good exhaust tone from it.

Allan has almost just about put pen to paper on one he likes them very much got to admit I loved the test drive we took.

If you guys love your 2.8 diesel in the Liberty then you will do back flips over the 3.0 V6

I would love a Commander. I was looking into it, but there is no way I can justify trading in a perfectly good paid off Liberty and still having 30K in car payments. That's just nuts.

I agree about tradin in the KJ for the XK. The XK in our family is mainly for crusin/trips & such. My liberty is the rig for wheelin, it fits in to tight places where the XK won't.
