I don't find anywhere in this thread that you've actually taken the Jeep back to the dealer. You noted that your dealer would be useless IF you took it back. The "drive by wire" comment you said was made when you test drove the Jeep, not when you tried to have it repaired. If you haven't taken it back and told them not to give it back until it's fixed, then what are you writing to customer service about? Lemon Laws don't do any good either if you haven't given the dealer the opportunity to fix the problem.

You've got to at least try to get it fixed. And ask for a loaner car.

OK, on that point I ASSuMEd that he has it together enough to take his back in, but that was an assumption...

I'm on a first name basis with all of the service staff at my dealer.

I've taken it in once so far. They just wrote on the repair order that "it has a drive-by-wire system. The hesitation is normal." They found nothing wrong. I was going to drop it off again last night because on the way home it felt like it had a slipping clutch, the hesitation was worse than ever, and it felt rougher than usual. So I get in my Jeep to drive it a while before taking it in and I can't get the problems to happen again. Drove to work this morning and it still wasn't too bad. So I am just completely frustrated.

My GF's 07 manual KJ drives just fine, and has driven fine since we test-drove it with 6 miles on it. You really can't tell that there's no mechanical throttle cable.

SInce you've had it in once, take it back in and do the following:
- Demand a loaner
- Have them drive your Jeep and one or more off the lot to compare
- Demand that they keep it until they resolve the problem

And as Moose said, make sure the service writers at your dealership know you on a first name basis. I've done that with all of my vehicles. It comes in REAL handy some times...........

Ugh.....Don't tell me that !
Just makes me more pissed off. You can definitely tell on mine. When you accelerate with mine it is similar to just pushing a button. Then you wait for power to kick in. Then you accelerate. (Especially 2nd gear, especially if turning a corner in 2nd and then trying to accelerate out of it)

I finally saw specs of what exactly is different on the 2007. The only addition was "Electronic Throttle Control", so at least I know the correct term to use now.

Maybe like I said earlier, I'm just picky. I don't know. I'm used to the mechanical (and painstakingly tuned) Holley carburetor on my 2nd gen Trans Am. I will say though one that knows the difference in "good" and "excellent" throttle response can tell the difference between the 06-prior mechanical throttlebody and 07 electronic throttle Liberty.

However, BoyNamedSue, did you try recalibrating the throttle?

I looked all over trying to find out how, but I can't find a thread on it anywhere.
I did turn the key to on while holding down the speedometer button. That makes it run thru some test cycles, but I don't know if it recalibrates anything.
Also tried turning the key to on, and the pushing the accelerator all the way in, then turning key off.

I don't think that'll do anything. Try disconnecting the battery.

Turn key on (don't start), let all lights and chimes go out. Depress pedal fully and release. Turn key off. Throttle is now recalibrated.

There may be more to the procedure, I can't remember.

It's gone !!!
I just couldn't stand it anymore.

Traded in for a 2007 Auto Libby. Test drove it and it had no noticeable problems.
The difference between the trade-in and the new one was $2,918.
The new one had $919 additional options and $153 less interest due to a lower rate.
So the real loss was $1,846. Thank you Daimler Chrysler.
(When I originally talked to them my loss would have been $800 more. I almost had to walk out to get the deal I got).

I took payments out 1 more year, so my payment is actually less than before, but there is no prepayment penalty, so I don't plan on going out the full time frame anyway. The good thing is I now have no choice but to love my new Liberty. No matter what happens I can't trade it in again, because I can't afford another loss. So I gurantee I will love it !!!!!!

(Got some good info on some things I've seen posted here: I had no tow group, no offroad group, but I got a power steering cooler and a tranny cooler. They took the tranny dipstick away because soccer moms were not checking the tranny fluid correctly according to the manual, so there would check it and think it was low and add more fluid which was resulting in broken seals or something like that. It was costing Jeep too much in warranty costs. Thank you soccer moms !)

Not ot be rude, but I think maybe there are some drivers on here that need to hone their skills with a clutch and shifter. The hesitation and jerking these people describe sounds to me like they are letting he clutch out all the way before getting the RPM's up to match the engines speed. It's like trying to go 15 mph in 4th gear. Doesn't work well!

Good point, but that is not the problem I am having.

I'll be cruizing along at say 25mph in 3rd gear, and if I simply press down on the throttle the car will "dip" prior to "go".
My turboc`harged golf had better throttle response.

Well, there's part of your problem. 25mph is a little early to be trying to accelerate in 3rd IMHO. It's a medium-high revving V6, not a low-end torque monster like the 4.0L I6.

Rusty, It might not be a 4.0 I-6, but it's also not a honda motor that rev's to 10krpm to make power.

I have always cruised in the highest gear possible when maintaining speed at a given speed limit. 3rd feels to me a bit buzzy to be driving anything over 25mph.... unless you feel that 3k rpm is fine for cruising at non freeway speeds. I have never done that in any of mmy 10 years of driving manual.

I find that 3rd gear is fine for cruising at 25mph. Maybe you have an 5-spd libby where the gear ratios aren't that close and you need to stay in second?

Cruised, yes... then you put it in 3rd as soon as possible. To accelerate, 3rd at 25 is a bit early IMHO. We have the '07 6 speed, same tranny that they put in the later TJs. My TJ has the NV3550, same as in the earlier KJs.

i think maybe you should turn off esp and try it, i hate how it controls the engine like that.
