"flashing" isn't quite right for the motorcycle headlights. "modulating" might be a better word. If you haven't seen them maybe your state isn't full of giant female appendages who are afraid to ride a bike. Be glad.

Again, some folks love their doodads, some folks think stuff like that is stupid. There have been tons of these fads over the years. Also as TBJ said, the advantage of the 3rd brake light has not paid out. The drop in collisions is consistent with the drop in accidents of all types per miles travelled. This has been attributed to tire & brake technology. When factored against the overall decrease in accidents per mile travelled, the CHMSL is an abject failure.

At least until 2004, such a rear flashing light would have been illegal in Ohio on public roads as "flashing, oscillating, or strobe" red lights were illegal unless factory installed to draw attention to an emergency situation, like a break-down. That is why the factory lights are called hazard lights. Although frankly it is not a stretch to believe that a driver who requires such an aid as the brake light in question is in fact a hazard each time that they attempt to stop.... Maybe you can get one for your Jazzy or Hoveround, too? 8) :D

I have seen a few vehicles here in Vegas that came stock with flashing 3rd brake lights. Toyota and Honda models iirc. I got a loaner from the Volvo dealership 2 years ago that had it equipped but had a sticker in the lower left corner of the windshield that said it could be ordered as an option. They all have some catchy name for them like GAF (Get Attention Fast), SFL (Stupid Flashy Light), IHTMM (I Have Too Much Money). . . Something like that anyway.

I don't really mind one way or the other around here. If there are 50 sets of brake lights ahead of you anyway, a flashing one doesn't make much difference. All the buses, City vehicles, Garbage trucks, etc have flashing warning lights on the back so it all just blends in to one big visual assault.

My wife's Mustang has a third brake light that flashes first and then goes steady. I hate it. Any time I have to follow her somewhere, I don't know if she is stopping or just slowing down a little. I think it flashes more than three times and by the time it turns to steady on, the car could be at a dead stop. The car is an 04 that we bought used in 06 but I do believe the flashing light was factory as there are no other modifications on the vehicle.
