Would you consider a plastic / resin skid plate?
Yes, if the value was there and I thought the manufacturer did their homework. 54%  54%  [ 27 ]

I've read through all these posts and I haven't seen anybody suggest adding a layer of high density nylon to the existing skidplates. You'd have the strength of the MOPAR skidplates and the slipperiness of a plastic skidplate.

I'm not into rock crawling either however due to the low clearance of a Libby (even with a lift & 30" tires) I tend to hit every large rock on the trail, especially those ones hiding in the bottoms of puddles.

I think a flat surface on Rocker Rails would be sweet (plastic sheet attached to metal rockers)

But for other skids front-belly-rear... Most companies make 4 skids for the KJ out of metal if you had with plastic sense its lighter 3 larger ones for more area coverage that would be sweet, it could be like a slip an slide under my jeep all I got to do is get some beer and invite the girls over lol

Hmm, I may have to work that into a slogan. Three out of four girls think our skids are sexier than the other leading brands...

Today I went and talked to Derek about how he has that buggy skid mounted. There are structural ribs under the skid for frame stiffness, it is a buggy after all so there are tubes going everywhere and he utilized some of the cage tubes as mounting points. That skid on his buggy is 4 years old and is beat up, but still works great. Another major plus he told me about the plastic over steel skid design is the shock absorption factor. When he used steel skids he'd come down hard on them and he would feel it a great deal in his back and neck. Now the plastic skid apparently soaks the shock up quite a bit more. That might not be too big of a deal for us since we don't really beat on our rigs like he does. The stuff he uses is not cheap though. It comes in varying thicknesses and comes in a 4'x6' sheet at a price of $600. He uses the 1/2 stuff and mounts it with carriage bolts. They will be changing that to flat head allen bolts though. His new plates will all be in black plastic now as well instead of white. So if you can find something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg like the stuff he uses then all the better. Just make sure it will hold up to a good beating.
