I'm not sure a gas tank would explode on impact, but there is always a posiblity. I like that they moved the washer bottle up into the engine bay. Don't know why they moved the coolent res. to the front, that will make a mess in a front impact collision. Also noticed no more hydraulic hood lift, got the old style move the stick into place. Also trying to see a good pic of the air intake, if it is water tight.

I like the design and the interior looks a lot more comfortable then my 02 libby don't like not having the spare on the lift gate and don't like the electrical transfer case button and don't like all the electrical stability options and safety options. One of the reason I got my 02 libby is it had no ABS no ESP it is perfect to keep all those systems out of the jeep. People need to realize they are driving a SUV and not a 350Z body roll is to be expected. I just like the libby I got now enough gadgets but not to much. :lol:

Yeah, I didnt actually think that it would explode. I was referencing some posts that were made a couple months ago involving rear impact. No need to bring that up again though, so just forget it.

I like it. I also own a Nitro R/T and it has some nice features and the extra room inside is a plus. It also has a very accessible grommet in the firewall to run wire for light and accessories thru. The ride is good and still very maneuverable. The biggest problem I have is that the roof line is lower and I keep hitting my head getting in. I'll replace my other car with the new Lib later this year. The orange Nitro looks too much like a whopping midlife crisis on wheels with me behind the wheel, lol!

Ok, maybe they turned the screw the wrong way but 16/22 is the wrong direction from what was posted for older KJ's, at least according to the window sticker from my 04

Did you read it correctly?
The EPA MPG estimates dropped the numbers down, so your current Liberty would get lower MPG than what you had on your window sticker due to the new tests. The 2008 gets 2 mpg more than the older Liberty's, if you use the same test to determine MPG.

Nope. Rather real world or not. They said the mileage was improved. Improved? How does getting lower as per old KJ's (exept mine :roll: ) mpg improving? Like I said, they can blame EPA for inflating all they want. Salesman said it hurt more then helped them trying to sell jeeps in general. I just got back from a trip down south. 3 tanks, 2 hwy, 1 city. I average 27mpg. Onboard system said 26.5. No bad for driving 75-80mph loaded with 2 adults, 3 kids (older) and lots of luggage. Granted, guess it won't be as fun as the Kj but I got my "trail rated" (got the badge to prove it) :wink: to fill in the gap. We miss the short turning radius, the ability to park in the garage and have room to walk around it when the garage door is closed.

After reading through all of this thread I get a strong sensation of Deja Vu taking be back to 2000.

Its ironic alot of what Im hearing now was said about the KJ back in 99.......

And the cycle continues.

======================================================
" We also asked how, with greater weight and the same powertrain, and a similar though improved drag coefficient, the Liberty could increase its gas mileage fairly substantially.

According to Rick, this was largely a matter of reducing rolling resistance, increasing aerodynamic efficiency, and cutting parasitic losses. In particular, brake-specific fuel consumption was reduced through a different usage of EGR; and the electronic throttle helped to tighten engine control for a little more efficiency. Overall, Rick felt that real world gas mileage increased even more than EPA estimates."
======================================================

How can we adapt some of these practices to our older KJs ???? :?:

The difference is, in 2000, the Cherokee had received a 16 year run, essentially unchanged. There were, and still are, parts and mods galore for the cherokee. We've only had a 6 year run, and the aftermarket groups had JUST started finally working with us. As a general rule, aftermarket parts manufacturers DON'T like to go to the expense of creating specialty parts for small year groups. Therefore, it's going to hurt Liberty owners that enjoy modifying. (And WHAT Jeep owner DOESN'T enjoy modifying..... :wink: )

If I can fit a booster seat and two toddler seats across the back seat, I might buy a KK. Baby #3 is due in October, and I don't want a minivan. Don't know that I'd trade my KJ for it though. KJ is paid off, so the wife's '02 Mazda6 V6 is the car to trade.

To an extent, they were right in 2000. I think a lot of it back then was fear of change, but some of it was fear of the general direction DCX was taking the Jeep brand. Looking at the Compass & the Patriot, I'd say those fears have finally been realized. The aftermarket is another concern, when a 3" lift on a Jeep is considered extreme, & everyone warns you of the damage that will occur, & almost no one is looking for solutions, then things have changed for the worse. The man under the umbrella said it, they are looking for a different type of buyer. in that process, they will eventually lose the base.

Ya, I dont understand why these production runs cant be a little longer, I mean look at the grand, only a 5 year production run. This has to be prohibitively costly to completely redo the platform every 5 years.

I can understand wanting to update the libby as to share platforms and potentially decrease cost, but it seems that mot of these short runs are being driven by the mentality that the automakers need to have something new every few years otherwise consumers wont be enticed to buy.

Did anybody notice the top opened up in the rain on the 3rd picture of this series? Is this to try and make it more Wrangler like?
